Dec. 7th, 2018 12:01 pmI started downloading the tumblr export on the laptop with the big hard drive, and that seems to be chugging along quite happily now I've remembered to stop it turning itself off when I don't poke it. It is going to be a big download. And I don't know as I even need it, but hey, may as well.
I put the first episode of Critical Role on the TV and discovered my tv had forgotten I was half way through. So that took some poking around to find where I left off. And then I keep on muting it or squinting through my fingers or sometimes both. I don't know what it is about the format that makes me all tense watching it but I don't get along with it at all. Subs don't entirely give you if they're using a character voice, though they do try by "going like this". I feel weird with everyone staring at me out of the TV. And it's just awkward with open ended storytelling, there's no structure or expectation cues.
But it was surprisingly satisfying when Scanlan killed something for apparently the first time in two years. That was, indeed, cool.
And I like how the GM descriptions roll with what the players want to do and give really colorful versions of what the results of hitting something can be. That is more fun than numbers.
Also it has been a very, very, long time since I actually played, so seeing how it works again is neat, but the details aren't matching any of the half dozen systems I've got on my shelves, so I won't be learning how to precisely.
I don't know, watching is kind of fun but I'm not sure my weird brain will get the hang of it. I'll go back to structured stuff thanks.
