I have read enough Teen Wolf fanfic that I now want a werewolf preserve in my daydream house for characters After.

Like I want a big mansion and to never have to go outside if I don't want to, but also extensive grounds for the unicorns, and now a place of their own for werewolves.

I know Oz in the comics was doingmokay last time I read them and have no desire to look up what they did ai ce then
but still
werewolfy happy endings where there's a werewolf support group and everyone can get along and none of this dominance fighting crap cause they grew out of it.

Maybe send them to classes to be the sort,of care worker who lifts heavy people, cause that's always helpful. Or like early years care and education. Can't get lost from a wolf nose. Just... nurturing werewolves. Because they don't have to be monsters.

And people who need a short break to get their head together sometimes are still people.

And it's basically Sentinels with more fur if you want to.

Canon is not kind.

So now I want like a ruined abbey with extensive grounds and a bunch of space for visiting werewolves.

I get a bit frustrated by how little of fanfic addresses the initial problem.

Don't get me wrong, AUs are great, fic and let fic, write all the things.

But it seems like it's a weirdly small percentage of fic that looks at the werewolf show and is like : What if werewolves, but happy?

And when it does it seems like one of the big approaches is What If bad thing never happened?

Which isn't, you know, the thing that happened that started this all off?

And it winds me up, too. Like, obviously you don't want bad things to happen to your people, BUT it makes it feel like happy endings are only for people who haven't gone through bad things. And no. Happy endings for everyone.

I know those fics are out there, I just hit a series of alternates in a row.

But like, taking what canon gave us and seeing what we can build with it is the happy place? Right?

I have an elaborate DC daydream that starts with getting a timeship back to episode one, or pre the first flashback, and using all the future knowledge to make good instead, but it involves all the bad starting to happen, because on the whole it would.

Also I know it wouldn't work out as easy as it does in my head, Booster Gold more or less tried it and discovered the butterflies mean you get one encounter with advantage, maaaaybe two, and after that you're flying as blind as anyone.

But.

Just handwaving all the hard bits away feels like
saying to the characters
okay, happy ending, but only for the bits of you that were happy anyway.

:(

There's another whole set of fics that are very much into
What if as traumatised as in canon
but actually out loud where people can hug them?

That one is much more my speed.

Traumatised and possibly disabled heroes putting themselves back together with a little help from their friends. That's the good stuff.

How to get to the happily ever after is both the trickiest bit and the good bit.

Only getting there by leaving stuff out is what makes me want to build character sanctuaries.

You know those colorblindness test books with the numbers?
If octarine is a real color only potential wizards can see
there would be pages that just look grey to the rest of us.

You know how thousands of years of history have people trying to figure out why the world is this way and being like, if creator, then giant wow person so much bigger?
I mean the bar on being a creator seemed pretty high.
And then there's all this figuring out what the creator wants from us and what rewards we get etc etc

The more I play The Sims the more I think we don't need fancy explanations.

Like it's not, ineffable plan, or, we're all in The Matrix.
It's just like, here's a corner of the world, here's the packs they downloaded. Points are for whims achieved. Player probably got bored after a certain point.
Game continues.

Like a creator could just have downloaded a bunch of click together stuff and we are one of a multiplicity of worlds running on similar code, and out there there's a different multiverse, possibly higher resolution or with more cheat codes.

And there might have been magic in the past that closed up because of bug fixes.

And there might be magic in the future if the game gets too boring.

Or it could all get shut down if the computer overheats or something.

I'm just saying, creation seems like a lower bar these days. And any given physical universe could contain many, many simulations.

It's all one from here, of course. I'm no Virtual Adept and if anyone figures out how to break out of the Matrix I will, as usual, be the last one using the old servers and just kind of hoping An Friend will post at some point.

And however we got here the good stuff still involves being kind.

But some days I imagine we're all little sim dudes with little sim goals, and it seems to explain some things.
