I have been reading books without having much to say about them. Or not much nice anyways.

I read six out of the nine books I have by this one author, and I think I can see what I liked about them first time around (interesting plots, possibly trans or genderfluid character, potentially queer love) but I think I'll be giving them away this time (miserable endurance plots, weird transphobia, homophobic point of view character and a story that goes way weirdly far to decide it is not queer.) (It resolves the 'love but not like that' story by deciding one character is so non human they never thought of the protagonist Like That because it would be like shagging a dog.)

I am very tired of worlds where literally every last detail is because someone sat down and made it up, but they made up homophobia and transphobia too. And a degree of sexism that does not actually make sense when compared to the stated inheritance laws and work patterns. And a bunch of other new and interesting prejudices to get people killed with.

And then some of the things the narrator protagonist says and what he feels the need to explain makes me feel like the book expects the reader to share the prejudices, and that just feels wrong.

So these books are not for me.

... kind of want to go back and reread the Bujold now, those were fun. Maybe I'll go revisit Miles and have space adventures this time...
