The Last Continent
Jul. 25th, 2022 07:51 pmanother day, another Terry Pratchett.
I had a similar sort of problem with this as with Interesting Times, in a gentler sort of way.
Rincewind running around trying to escape from things and on the way poking fun at a certain school of fantasy novels? All good fun.
Rincewind doing the same but engaging with, kind of sort of, the story of Australia?
... not comfortable with it, honestly.
It's got lots of good bits, lots of funny bits, lots of ways of making fun of assorted wizards, excellent bits on Mono Island, and it does indeed explain the platypus
but the particular imaginary of the background doesn't work for me.
Sourcery and The Last Hero had things to say of themselves. I've liked them best of the Rincewind novels.
Only Unseen Academicals of that lot still to go.
