Lone Wolf on Xbox
Sep. 23rd, 2023 01:27 pmI bought the Lone Wolf computer game when it was like £1.20 on sale, on the theory you get your money's worth in like ten minutes, but it turns out I just sat down and played it for, according to the menu, 13 hours.
It's probably counting the meal breaks, I didnt find a pause and wasnt sure how it was saving or indeed if, so I just left it on inventory while I ate.
Reckon it did save. It has the right act number on the main menu now. I think.
I kind of sort of hate the unlock the door minigames and do not like the stupid combat where you have to do things very quickly in the right order *but* you can't just memorise a sequence of button pushes you have to wait to be asked for them. I died a lot a lot but as far as I can tell you can retry the fights as many times as you like. But the ask god to help by dropping it to easy mode button went away after a while, possibly three tries, which would have been good to know before I used them.
The graphics are... distinctive, as in monsters be ugly ugly, and Lone Wolf's cloak keeps doing a thing that I keep doing in the 3d model heroforge when I try and get cloaks to flow right, except someone got paid to make it sort of waggle out from the middle of his back.
And because Lone Wolf is a guy, the NPC we have to keep rescuing is a girl, who has amazing skills that never get to actually work because that nakes the hero look good. Honestly it's making me realise how much mileasge I got from Lone Wolf's artwork having long hair and wearing a tunic. You can project a lot on a line drawing.
... the graphics guy isnt wearing the right things neither.
So what did I like about it?
... well I like Lone Wolf and I like saving the world a lot. And also I am choosing to be kind and trusting and so far the game is letting me, which is not a given with computer games.
Plus when the controller goes brrrr to tell you a bad happened, that's always useful, it's easier to notice than number go down or bar be shorter.
... I think this might be one of those times when mostly I just dont get around to quitting?
... oh, actually, very good thing: it never made me motion sick. It does some swoopy things but they aren't the exact set of inconvenient swoopy things that make me be actually ill. That means it's playable, which is never a given.
So: it is playable, I can do even the bits I dont like, and I want to see how the story goes.
Apparently that's worth playing all day, since I am feeling pretty okay about that use of time.
Okay then.
