Today I had nothing to do
so I did nothing.

I installed and played an old computer game. There's a compatibility whatsit so Windows 7 could figure out how to play a game that wants to be in other sorts of Windows. I don't know for sure it is needed to run Tradewinds games, but now it is happily running them.

The trouble is I remembered the good trick and bought the swish ships and, basically, can win with my eyes closed.

I need more better computer games. where there is trading and building and maybe getting better ships or better caravans or something. I have a game which is stomping around a dungeon killing things and it is really really boring except I keep playing it anyway because sometimes there is shiny treasure and always there's lots of maths while trying to figure out how to optimise a particular character. Also I keep deciding roleplaying type things, like the character with the pink bunny helmet is going to keep wearing that helmet come what may, even if it means being hundreds of defence points short. And same with the cheese helmet. Because once you are a character who will wear a slice of cheese on your head, you are not a character who would take it off. Also there are characters who eschew magic, except that wasn't working very well at all. Magic is the only way to heal, for instance. Magic is a lot of the armour. Magic is the way to get back to town to buy more healing. So in theory they were going to eschew magic, but in practice they have quite a lot of magic around, just not the most useful types. They pour all their points into getting better with a particular weapon instead. And I keep thinking, there must be better games, where I can play characters and make roleplay choices and it matter more. Because whatever I decide about the mini imaginary people, they're still going to stomp through a dungeon hitting things until everything is dead. That's what they do. That's all they do. All the time. And while the game has been more than worth the money, I'd really quite like to quit it now and play something less boring instead. Only whenever I start trying to find less boring things I find instead things with swoopy cameras that make me feel travel sick very quickly. I don't know how to shop for games by 'does the camera stay steady' because clearly most players don't have this problem so nobody mentions it. I just have to try things and see.

It's simpler sticking with the little clicky shopping and selling things games.

But there have to be games that are epic, with stories and quests and adventures, that just also involve shopping and selling and maybe making and inventing too. And possibly buying ever better ships. Or assembling a team. As you do.

I do like the time management games, and haven't finished them all yet, but very often I'm just not in the mood.

Also, I need to sort the chairs out. The computer chair I spent all day every day on for years is now not comfortable at all after a few hours. I spend all day every day in the recliner instead. I suspect this is leading to me getting recliner shaped.

And the computer monitor and keyboard do kind of sort of fit where I've put them, but they're a bit precarious. Only they don't currently fit anywhere else. I feel like I should rearrange my whole entire house and optimise. Except for not really wanting to, because I can go a whole month without turning that computer on, due to being on this one or the other one that both fit in my lap. But aren't really game boxes.

I'm bored. I don't know what I want to do even. Just big bored.

Not epic by any means, and still in beta, but can be pretty darned funny! An open-source Theme Hospital implementation:

Needs the original artwork resources -- let me know if you're interested. My main gripe with the original was that you were stuck with the original floorplan layouts, but this has a map editor.
