I forgot to pack my lunch. Or my lunch drinks. Which is annoying.
College had vegetarian burgers, quorn ones again, so I did eat.

I been incredibly cranky all day.
Long day is long.

Short Story lesson was not the one where I say about the story I chose, it was one about time in stories where we read about a guy getting shot in the head.
Also there's a loud guy who answers all the questions and keeps saying his thing even when he's been told he's wrong.
But the thing I posted to the blog the teacher said was good, so that's nice.

Dissertation Preparation... I thought I knew what I was writing about, but then I went in there and tried to tell it to the teacher. My head is all made of tangent and muddle. :-p
Teacher was a little helpful but has always admitted up front that Doctor Who is not her subject.
Said some useful things though. Like, I'm talking about gender and how it's cool women get to do stuff. But what am I comparing it to? Were and are kids stories full of women getting to do that stuff? How unusual is it? I said I was mostly comparing it to 'classic' science fiction and like the Star Trek reboot where they vanished all the women. But I need to have more better compares.

Then I got books and sat in the library staring at the computer screen while failing to have thoughts.

Then it was National Cinema and we were meant to go work on computers and compare some dadaist pictures to the dancing bit in Metropolis. But we had to tromp all over the school to do it because the first two computer rooms were full. And then once we had computers half the class, the half I was stuck sitting next to, turned away from the screens to have a good long complain about their dissertation supervisors.

Dear Fellow Students: If you are in a lesson, with work set, that is actually in front of you, would it be terribly too much trouble to do the fucking work?
Or at the very least just honestly bugger off and leave the rest of us to it.

I realise they have stress and anxiety and woe. But skipping lessons in order to vent is, well, counterproductive. Their final grade also depends on doing well in this unit.

I keep trying not to say this stuff out loud. It gets more frustrating every year.
(and I have been there since 2002)

Also, when the work we are set is get into pairs and discuss, I can't do work if nobody does work.

... but I can't complain very loudly because I got distracted, because the bit we were set was on YouTube and linked to ten minutes of Metropolis that wasn't in the DVD the library has, which is proper studying, and then linked to some music videos using Metropolis, which, well, wasn't.
It's hard enough to concentrate when everyone is on topic.
When there are shiny things right there and no reasonable chance of doing the work anyway... boo.
I shall do proper thinking here in the quiet before next lesson.

Now I am tired and grumpy and convinced I'm secretly an idiot.

There was nice stuff too. Like fellow student carried my trundle bag so I wouldn't have to go seek out a lift while we were all in quest for the computer rooms. There's only the one lift. It's half the building away. So it was nice to go up the stairs with the rest of the people.

And my short story can be poked into shape now I know what it's about, but the teacher thinks is good already.

And my dissertation is totally doable even if I did just tell the teach I'll be studying episodes I'd almost decided not to study.

I just want to hermit and only emerge to talk interesting stuff about our studies.
... no, I pretty much just want to hermit.
... but if that were so it shouldn't wind me up so much when people don't do the studying talk.

The Younger Daughter's English prof (essay-writing class) kicked out most of the class last week because they hadn't bothered to do the reading, and/or weren't paying attention in class, or even showing up. Younger Daughter was not, I am glad to say, among the kicked-out.

Hugs, and yay for good comments on your short story!
