Things I have learned today

From the BBC4 Castles documentary series (which is a whole different one to the BBC2 one I've apparently missed most of already, and will need the iplayer for):

Kenilworth castle. Longest seige on English soil. 172 days. They held out against barges across the waterworks, against towers, and against tunnels. Heavy seige engines pounded the walls, to no avail.

And the whole time they left the gates open.

Now that's great big stone ones.
