Today's weirdly exhausting dream: an elderly lady had died, and we were going through her stuff.

I turned out to inherit much of it because my thumb print unlocked her phone and tablet computer.

... well it's more precise than glass slippers...

She had a beach front two bedroom flat with a view, all bought and paid for. It had a few too many steps out front for a lady of her girth and mobility, but it was much less likely to take flood damage that way.

Her main room was a bedroom with two beds, neatly made with sunshine yellow covers. The one window to the beach front was on the opposite wall between them, so you could see out. It was grey out there, top to bottom, almost always grey. The outsides of the houses curled around the edge of the sea, and they were shades of off white too.

Inside the furniture was that fitted white stuff with the gold twist beading that used to be everywhere and hasn't been for a while. Drawers, drawers, and more drawers. There was a dressing table, and one book case, L shaped to the window so it stuck out into the room. There was just about walking space around that room. Mostly there was storage.

On the bookcase there were a few books, but there were gaps between like they just hadn't been enough to fill the shelves. I never understand how people can live like that. Very puzzling.

The books went back to choose your own adventure series and between them were little plastic whatsits and thingies. The earliest things were from the 80s. All through the flat, earliest was the 80s. There were some very 80s handbags in there too.

Most of the dream was one of those endless tasks, in this case finding all the handbags so we could find all the money and all the little electronic gizmos. The oldest electronics were solar powered calculators, things I recognise from when I was small. The newest were the ones she'd had on her, the thumb print ones. Those were... kind of like Stark tech, with being see through if you hold them up, and very swish? Or the tablet unfolded, so it was phone sized in your pocket but plenty bigger if you wanted it to be. So logically this elderly lady was in fact an 80s kid, maybe a little younger than awake me.

The handbags were everywhere. All sorts of metallics, and suedes, and colours. There was a particularly fetching purple handbag with a matching lilac purse inside. There were bags for every occasion and to match any outfit.

The only clothes we could find were a single set of coveralls, big and wide enough to fit the lady, hanging on their own in one closet.

The other closet was full of lightbulbs. Shelves and shelves of lightbulbs. Someone made a sniffy comment about how they'd match the ones at her work places, theatres and so forth, strongly implying she'd nicked off with them at some point. But they weren't in use, wouldn't have fit mostly. There were big long fluorescent tubes, and little twisty bulbs, and a whole shelf of ones with light up letters, like they were opalescent except for a letter. There were tons of those, but they weren't a whole alphabet. Neither were they arranged to spell things. Just bulbs bulbs bulbs. The whole thing had a sense of anachronism, but they were all right modern from where I'm sitting. So again, must be forward from here.

A seafront view ... I was going to say it wouldn't change much, in the future, with all them nice three storey houses already along it. But it would on account of there being much more sea and less front by then. But there were cliffs in the view, so probably this bit had been raised enough that it went from high and dry to getting splashed in high weather, cause looking out the window I had an image of the waves rising up real high in the wind.

The handbag task was endless cause they kept going missing. I'd found a trolley, the little two layer tea tray things, and I'd started putting handbags on that, having opened them and checked there was interesting inside. Each of them had money, of course, you don't store a purse empty, very bad luck, but they also had keys. Lots of different keys. Some of them wrapped in silk scarves. So I'd check, and I'd put things on the trolley, and then I'd go look in the next drawer (out of endless walls of drawers) and find another of the things. But eventually when I turned around I realised there was still room on the trolley, and half the stuff I'd put there already had vanished. Including my handbag. Which, putting it where it would mix up was not a best plan, but still, who would steal handbags?

Well there was a whole flat full of 'grieving' people looking for her will and giving me dagger eyes for having the right thumb print, so, you know, quite a few suspects.

As dreams go it was rather short on action, but it had all these little clues in the things I kept picking up, puzzles, and even in the dream I didn't know why it would be me who could unlock things. So I kept looking then and now I keep turning it over in my head. It could clearly turn into something. It could clearly turn into several somethings. It's neat.

I kind of want to go get some actual sleep though. I feel like I was doing inventory most of the night.
