I went to sleep and someone's smoke alarm went off for a full minute so I got up and put lights on and started looking for clothes, but no they made it shut up, which is yaay obvs, but now i am technically awake and it is unpleasant.



Also looking up real British nobility to see how fake names would fit is so frustrating because some of them have excellent names like Ravensworth but you can'r just use them because there's someone using it right now and you're writing fantasy not RPF.

I mean they also have house castle mansions and some of those play themselves in movies a lot, but for that you hire them. You probably can't hire to write bout a secret branch of Ravensworth that worships pagan gods for magic and/or can turn themselves into ravens. Even though that would be cool.

Also rude. So.

Now I need to either change plot bunnies again or invent a whole nobility
and I never see flow charts of how those work so probaby they aren't even simples like flow charts
but even if there's only a smll town worth of people they're prety organised so organised how?

like is it possible to be isolated or is everyone secretly organised into a militia with a place in the chain of commad or is it most likely somewhere in between and messy with conflicting obligations and at least three layers of old ways new ways now ways?



So that's not simples.


And how big is a mansion anyway? And how many people lived and worked there? And why does anyone need it if it can house x percentage of wizardry in total?

It would be so cool to have your own house castle mansion abbey with like a courtyard and stuff, but if there are brooms then castle design would change.

GURPS Fantasy actually has that one covered, I can look it up again later.

But whatever big fancy land and big fancy house you inherit with a way in to the magical universe, it came with a whole lot of people all in a web around it once, and that seems complex and necessary to figure.

I was just on wiki looking for lists of extinct barons
as you do

apparently there were four different lines of Baron Strange, two now extinct.

I have this list of people names, and place names, that are so weird you just wtf. It started with Baron Brain, Lord Sugar, and Captain Speedy, all Brits I believe? And then just expanded into "and he walked around with that name his whole life". Richard "Dick" Trickle was one, I recall. It was a VERY long text file. It's basically "if you feel awkward naming a character something, consider these real humans".
