Doctor Who: The Woman Who Fell to Earth

I need an icon for this Doctor.
I mean this one is also on point, but.
I like her a lot :-D
And I like what the show is doing with the four of them.
But it made me cry. When it was trying to make me cry, yes, but not entirely for the reasons it was trying for. Does more diversity always have to mean more diverse characters getting killed?
But then the bit at the end with the previews of people who will be in the rest of the season was very promising, so, benefit of the doubt, ish, on that.
I feel like we've only got a sketch of the Doctor so far, like there were many excellent bits (new sonic!) but we'll know who she is next week. It was good though, all the figuring things out, and the giving him a chance, and the being so many steps ahead. And the jumping then complaining these legs used to be longer. And then complaining when the guy kicked the other guy. Like, honestly, you just stuck him full of bombs? But that he did to himself. But still, being like 'you've no right' is an interesting reaction there, because it was a few seconds after being self defence.
And I liked the speech about how we can all change and decide who we want to be next. That bit was good.
And then the charity shop bit :-) Because of course the Doctor is a charity shop person, regular shops are all full of the same things.
My mum volunteers in charity shops though so I kind of want to >:-( at the Doctor for throwing things around. Like, yes, very much like the Doctor, but still, that's a whole lot of putting things back now.
... make the Doctor do it, we don't know she didn't.
I really like her clothes. Those are proper reasonable clothes. And while I don't have that precise outfit I have a rainbows stripes and a blue trousers so stealth cosplay is simples.
Ryan is good so far, with the making videos and knowing how to find things out and staying curious and doing studying while he's working, those are good beginnings. And I was so happy they didn't *~*magically*~* fix things at the end. Like, yeah, stubborn is achievable, but it doesn't make you just not disabled. But he got up every time he got knocked down, so, that's an excellent character.
Also, I keep thinking of all the other characters who've done a trip and fall quite implausibly to drag out a chase or increase tension. Now here's one with a reason...
Yaz is good because can do sensible talking to people stuff, is more about sorting things out than wielding authority, and comes back when she doesn't have to.
I loved the bit where they all go off to talk to their social circles or check the internet to find different angles on information. Because of course everyone knows things, they know different things, and they fit together.
And it was great when the Doctor left them on a crane together so Ryan just got on Youtube to find out how to make the crane go. Because you can, now.
And Graham... I always quite like the one who clearly doesn't want to be here and quite sensibly would prefer to not be in danger and oh by the way would like to know how long until they maybe die now. I mean, that is someone who is Relatable. But then they need a reason to turn up. And right now the reason is accident and the danger coming to them, but he copes and helps. And later the reason can be family, in lots of complicated ways set up plenty clearly here.
And all three of them have character arcs they're launching on, things they want and things they think will stop them from getting them and a whole new set of opportunities here.
... I quite like the cliffhanger but once the TARDIS is back and everything is optional I'll like it better. I mean, choice is pretty important. Kidnapping your new friends is not a great beginning, even on accident.
... I liked when the microwave pinged.
I'm being more analytical than feels-y here. I like the Doctor, and I loved the making things sequence, and the speeches were good. Clear mission statements.
And I guess I just don't doubt her as the Doctor, that's the Doctor immediately, so I might have skipped some of what the story was spending effort on bringing you along with.
But I am :-D now and very much look forwards to next week.
