Doctor Who continues to make me happy :-)

But there were Many Spiders, so anyone even slightly worried about spiders, you might want to skip the spiders. I mean I am not usually scared of Doctor Who but I was right tense and jumpy with spiders this week.

I continue to be not best pleased that the increased diversity seems to mean an increase in diversity of dead people. I mean it's nice that people happen in variety, it's just the screaming and dying parts get a bit old.

... and then I distracted me with Monday tasks and only remembered I didn't finish this when I went back to this window later...

Okay, so, I like Yaz and her family and I'm still not sure she gets much character Stuff but have a tentative hypothesis that she's The Quiet And Sensible One at home, which is a difficult character to notice, because everyone else is being big.

I did like how her mum was calm in the spider crisis and I LOL when she was like 'my husband was right, do you know how annoying that is?' Because conspiracy theory guy who keeps garbage in the house is a bit Difficult.

Yaz's family must have an odd opinion of her friends now though, they nip out to get a parcel, they forget about the parcel, and the food, and the visit. Her mum saw lots but seems annoyed about it.

I quite liked when her mum was being all 'are you two dating' to like everyone in sight. Awkward.

Also I liked that the Doctor double checked with Yaz before venturing an opinion on that one. Because at least they know they're awkward.

What else...

I liked that the spider expert was a lady and it was Yaz's mum with the job and this mean there was a scene where four women, all topic experts, were going through a door to Get Things Done together. Because that very very seldom happens.

The bad guy being the human caricature was of the good. Spiders were just being spiders, and the Doctor managed to be kind to them the whole way through the story. Plus you got some sciencey bits that make all the cliches of spider horror Clues because spiders don't do that, and then had the spider die of no oxygen because it was too big. Like, way to mix your educational mandate and your genre.

The caricature business-politics guy not being named until quite late in the episode left us able to form an opinion on who he was, cause it seemed quite clear, and then he's got his own name and place in the DWverse so that's all tidy.

I like how he was all exaggerate, that's why I'm saying caricature, it was a good one, plenty to recognise and poke at.

I also kind of like how the way he walks away at the end indicates a change of scale for DW? Like, no "Don't you think she looks tired" and godlike control of the political landscape, just, you know, day saved, world ongoing.

What else...

I like this Doctor, but she's very different. She's kind like 12 wanted to be, I think. And has feelings where people can see them. And gives people proper warnings, not just promises. New and improved, in people ways.

Heh, I just googled and saw headlines from tabloids all 'companion is bisexual!' I mean that would be nice but just because her mum wonders doesn't mean much, if she wonders about everyone. It's more like the world thinks these options are normal.

:-)

So, Doctor Who makes me happy but not much thinky.

I like.

Yes, it's nice to see that it all paid off. As in, all of Twelve's soul-searching created a Doctor who is genuinely better. <3
