... why do they use xovers to show people not being themselves? they're opportunities to advertise each show to the other show's viewers, but we mostly meet twist versions. weird choice.
weird choice is pretty much my take home on the three episodes.
especially when Barry and Ollie get each other's hallucinations. I mean it's a unique way to get them to understand each other more, but it makes a nonsense of the fight sequence that would otherwise be perfectly sensible speedster vs archer. I can see how it makes sense because they've swapped destinies entire, not just bodies, and they've been getting more like each other, so sure, have each other's hallucination fears too, why not... it's just weird.
Also Ollie seems to be convinced he's dark side, drawing on anger and bad memories, but he did Hope magic? To counter Damien Darkh? Literrally Hope and Life to stop Death and Despair. I mean, I haven't watched that lately, but that's what I remember. Soooo... did he just... forget?
I mean getting depressed enough to hate himself would be, you know, reasonable, considering. Just not where I thought he was at.
The bit where everyone is willing to die to save the world and Ollie says you need the other two because they're the good guys? :-( Dude needs someone to tell him his story the hero way.
... dude needs a whole different life, he got the grimdark one here.
It was pretty hilarious him being so sure Batman is an urban myth, but also sad. That's how he ends up so isolated? But how long ago did Batman disappear? Guess he was not a reaching out guy here.
Batwoman... did not impress me. The batarangs are ouchie sorts, the enemy are all those poor sods in Arkham, it's vigilantes vs mental illness as an intro, and Gotham has fallen apart without Batman. No evidence of Batfamily. Plenty of clues this will be another vigilante fest where the law is for losers and violence has to be done. Like, I get it, you get costumed heroes that way, but the comics world where you need capes for cape business but cops are still actually some use? I miss that.
The book of Destiny has writing in it like the speedsters use. That's cool and interesting.
All the swaps made literal that thing where Ollie and his wife are becoming different people and growing apart, so he got a chance to make thqt sweet speech about always sticking together.
... sweet, but stupid. speaking as a long time villain fan, you've got to have boundaries, or you're Harley following the Joker down. You can't just designat someone a good person and say forever, you've got to promise to work on the failure modes together.
So I guess on Supergirl from this and tumblr they're doing a thing where Alex doesn't really know Kara? But lo, instant connection wins. ... which is weird, but if it's a combination of encouragement to boot the creepy guy and relief someone knows and likes she's a lesbian, okay. ... Frost was totally hitting on her and disappointed she chose the blonde tho.
Thqt would be cool in Earth 1.
also, what Caitlin said about never giving up on love? love without trust and respect is *not* love, it's empty and foolish. Caitlin was totally wrong on that one. love is a choice and a verb, not a label. boo.
I don't know what the Flash's issues are if Elseworlds worked through them. Fear of being Ollie? Like, he has previously actively tried to be. But he's pretty sure of humself now.
I liked how clear and open Ollie and Barry can be in the first part explaining the emotional place they come from. Painful experience vs running towards the good stuff. The latter is hope though. Ollie needs more of that.
Okay so, if Elseworlds weird choices made comic book literal Ollie's issues, I'll trust it did similar with the others. *shrugs*
Earth 90 and musical theme was fun. Barry's one moment of 'dad?' was ow the good way.
I am not, repeat not, happy about the reference to Diggle's ring. Because characters are not interchangeable, and it's only characrers of color being smushed together like this. Black Canary gets weirdly multiplied so there's white women of very similar issues everywhere, but Dr Light and now maybe a Green Lantern get smushed? Not cool. At all.
... but I'd be excited to see Green Lanterns done right.
Clark in the Supergirl universe is such a happy puppy.
... I realise reading all the Teen Wolf fic has influenced my phrasing there, but look at him, he's all sweet and... you know.
And I haven't seen him for ages but I was so happy to see the engagement and hear about the baby? Because I like this sweet version of him.
And Lois. Just turning up with a big glowy hammer. As you do.
I also liked that they're moving to the space city where she won't get kicked by the baby and it's implied they had a lot of sex. I mean ability to be sure superpowers wont break anyone is probably pretty relaxing, so that sounds fun.
But Superman saying the world doesn't need Superman when it has Supergirl

I have heard that the other way around so many times, thank you everyone who put it that way on Supergirl.
even if its still wrong because Stronger Together.
it's nice knowing he has confide ce in her.
also it's so fun watching him be all confidence and Superman and then all fumbly and Clark. He's really good at that.
And evil!Superman was fun too, because scenery chewing is the good stuff on occasion.
Dr Deegan is Dr Destiny in waiting by the end, so, that's a whole lot of supervillainy available.
Creeptastic psychiatrists are annoying though. I mean have at least one around who helps. just, any at all.
Elseworlds had some fun bits. I don't think you really need much context from the other shows to enjoy any part of it, because stuff gets explained just enough, and nobody is themselves all the time anyways.
The xover episodes surely do have all the down sides of comic book xovers though.
And I am not looking forwards to Crisis.
I mean, I know it was huge, but... not looking forwards to it.
Might watch more Arrow later, mostly want to go back and watch Flash again cause I miss all those people.
