On Golarion

beccaelizabethToday I was reading the description for more Pathfinder adventure paths
and discovered one where the adventure pops over to Earth, by teleporting chicken hut,
and arrives in Russia in 1918.
*blinks*
I mean, I have been daydreaming portaling in, but the hundred year time difference is a surprise. Would mean arriving in a completely unknown political situation, but with all this adventure path bit as history that is still living memory for humanoids.
It seems like an odd choice though, on account of, if we wanted to run an adventure in Russia, we wouldn't be reading about Golarion. I mean I have a Russia rule book too, in arm's reach even, but I am reading about this whole other world.
Future adventures apparently reveal the presence of Cthulhu too, and I am not especially keen on that mythis getting its tentacles into even more places.
But this Pathfinder world is sort of a mega crossover.
Which leaves you with Stargate like questions when the Egyptish place on Golarion is in universe noticed to be like Egypt
but Golarion history goes back much, much further.
... and there are regular Chicken hut runs between the two.
... what a set of complications.
I guess it could be taken to enrich the setting, giving it a backdoor to Earth. But the time offset means you can't use it for the most obvious thing ie you, personally, go adventuring. Which in GURPS is super easy.
Also my main daydream involves hiring people to do a nature survey of Golarion and figure out which varieties of what food growing stuff needs to be imported. Which is a big kaboom to local ecosystems, but, could improve yields immensely, which I theorised would stop some of the more interminable wars. So one would take one's chances.
But if there's a hut going back and forth between worlds anyway, we get to wonder what they already brough over. Which herbs were in fact imported?
It's not a very fun twist right now.
Because instead of using the connect for fun things, it just dragged real world awful into the Pathfinder... made up sort of awful.
It does really weird things to the theology though. I mean, are gods local? Do your clerics lose their power on another planet? Did they write it as a low mana zone to avoid asking?
what is magic and what the gods role in it?
... big questions to arrive with a great big chicken hut.
I dont think I like it because if I wanted to do historical I'd be reading a different book.
But it is obviously the simplest answer to why there's same myth names both places.
... I want some elf Adventurers to come back in a hundred years and have fun with genetics.
... maybe Starfinder is more for that...
