Nail Varnish
Nov. 27th, 2021 11:01 amThe other day I was looking for something and noticed the nail polish drawer smelled, like, excessively of nail polish. And also that I probably hadnt opened it for two years. And do I really need things I havent looked at for two years?
So I went through the drawer and wrote the names down and checked if they're still available, and there are three with the same names but none with the same name and number. So if I get rid of them I cant just get new ones. And the current colours are mostly pants. And they all say stuff about base coat and top coat, and some say you dont need a uv light as if that is a selling point, and how long has it been since I bought nail varnish and what have they done to it??
So I've been thinking and I reckon what happened was I stopped using nail varnish when I started using touchscreens on the regular.
I just think of getting that gloopy stuff on my nice tech and go Nope.
Dont even know if its likely, just pretty sure I'm not going to risk it.
So the bottles that have a date on say 30M, and they are... definitely older than that.
I think I bought some of these in college.
So.
I suspect what I have is a drawer full of pretty chemical gloop, and I should probably get rid of all of it.
Even the glittery stuff.
*big sighs*
ah well.

As for nail polish on tech - if the polish has dried, then no problem, but if your nails are wet, then yes, it's Very Much Not Good.

Date: 2021-11-29 09:58 am (UTC)I've always had colours that weren't easy to find, so I wasn't so quick to throw out an old bottle (unlike my mom's 100 shades of pink, all very easy to replace).
I've only rarely had a bottle go so dry it couldn't be resuscitated. If polish gets too gloopy, mixing in clear polish can save a bottle. Just shake real well. I used to have bottles that came with a tiny metal ball inside, for better mixing. Don't think they do that anymore. Never mix with acetone or remover. That breaks down the chemistry and will kill the polish. I don't like 'thinner' either, because it can dilute.
But you do need to make sure the bottles are properly closed. Also good idea to make sure there isn't buildup on the rim that prevents proper closure and/or leads to caps getting stuck (though those can sometimes be reopened with gentle application of acetone.) Shaking sideways rather than towards the cap also helps avoid buildup in the rim area. [Just info dumping. You probably know all that.]
I was wondering about the newfangled type of polish, but haven't felt the need to buy any. Would be happy to hear more if you research it further.
