That day was not well spent
Aug. 28th, 2026 10:22 amI didn't want to start a new book or watch or listen things so I built some characters for Inevitable Excess in Wrath of the Righteous.
... that took So Many Hours. So many. To build half a dozen 20th level characters? Sooooo many.
And the build guide I was trying to make sense of is rubbish. Which I could have noticed much sooner if I had read it more carefully before I started putting things in, so it was frustrating. The 'team' it suggested has an Angel KC and a cleric who depends on Trickster feats. And the whole team only works with items you can get from the main game. And they turn out not to be available in Inevitable Excess. So I have spent many many hours building a team that will not work, on a difficulty level where they cannot retrain.
And it is kicking my butt completely.
Unfair difficulty is not kidding. I have built with every trick I know and buffed with 24 hour angel spells and added more buffs from a brown fur transmuter with all their powers kind of working (if I can figure them out) and there's a bard to buff them further (only I think that isn't working because I don't know what the powers do yet) and generally if there is anything they aren't buffed with it is because I forgot which I had already done.
And they are mincemeat.
Not even one fight. None fights achieved. Big stack of adventurer parts and a coin flip chance of hitting.
I don't know what I am doing wrong and this is not a way to find out, because getting minced too quickly.
I did build for AC and get a pleasingly tough paladin out of it, but I need to build perfect at this difficulty and neither I nor the internet guide achieved that.
The witch hexes where you buff your team and debuff the enemy would be handy if I could figure them out... and remember to use them.
Guarded Hearth would have helped, but unless we sleep after every fight it just cannot be a guarded hearth day all day.
Mostly though it is trying to jump in at level 20. Sure they're all a bit familiar, but not as it turns out familiar enough.
So that was not a day well spent.
I would be better off doing spreadsheets about it and seeing what each build bell and whistle will do.

Date: 2026-08-29 05:55 pm (UTC)Google and some random guys on reddit said the game had fixed the bug where you have to take prestige classes before level 20 for them to advance your caster level properly. It had not fixed the bug. First time I built the arcanist oracle mystic theurge the level capped at 20 and cast things lasting twenty hours or twenty minutes. Despite having put thirty levels in. So back to the beginning I go, and lo, we get to thirty if we do it in the right order.
But you still need to know exactly what the oracle spells are or to look them up on another device, because the Mystic Theurge interface will not let you check them.
Blooming annoying.
Taking Loremaster to advance your Arcanist works but the google was stupid again so there is no early entry option and you can only Loremaster the class you have enough spells in. I thought so but it takes eight levels to be able to check.

Date: 2026-08-29 06:12 pm (UTC)Rogue secrets you can only take the once. So you can take Improved Evasion but not the improvement to your Perception, or vice versa. By the time you are a Legend it won't matter, more or less. But I start out trying to get the KC to be the most Perceptive and Persuasive so on the dual Int Cha caster build they have to make some choices about leveling up. Letting Legend take the strain on CHA and leaving it at 16 until you Legend makes one kind of sense but leaves your Nature's Whispers weaker than it has to be. INT increases can give you 40 levels in everything except one skill, which I think was only a 20. At that point you know more than any other human alive, even matching their best day to your worst roll. It could be considered overkill.
But investing in CHA makes game mechanical sense, it doesn't feel very me. Struggling for CHA feels more me.
Still, the only thing you need 80 persuasion for is intimidating Deskari, and I didn't even build a character meant to Intimidate. Loremaster combat secrets can skip straight to Shatter Defences or try and demoralise everyone at once when something gets killed. But I didn't take those. So I'm just a diplomancer to try and talk Areelu into things.
Possibly I could have a think about what exactly would be necessary in a CHA Per sense.
