Packed & prepared
Nov. 9th, 2006 10:07 pmFor a wonder, it is still the night before the convention, and not even the early hours of con day itself. Yet I am fully packed.
I had a sleep, then I unpacked and repacked. Decided to leave all the red stuff behind and go with black and silver. I still have more outfits than one weekend will see, but I had enough space in the bag for the shiny things that go with them.
I took enough clothes to not wear the camouflage stuff. It just feels weirder wearing it this weekend than any other. But I'll still wear it on the way down, not least because it has the most pockets ever.
I have my small bag packed with all the pills and potions I might possibly need, along with instruction leaflets. I even put my (new!) watch on the pile so I won't have to ask the time off someone to know if I can have more painkillers.
Not that painkillers are a feature of my weekend 100% of the time. I'm sure there've been nights without them.
I have six bottles of lucozade in the small bag and shall have even more in my pockets. Also, if I remember, bread. I may well not remember. But Tesco didn't deliver the hula hoops, so bread rolls is the closest to portable munching I have.
I have the torch and the war fan in the most accessible pocket.
I have the things that look like weapons in a bad light in the least accessible pocket. The one you have to undo two layers to get at. Because I am not dumb.
I have two kinds of snake, one wooden and one silver.
... Well Stargate conventions are the only time they're funny ...
I have flashy Buzz Lightyear gun. And also a silver top, miniskirt, and long gloves, so I can be a flash spacegirl of some sort.
I probably won't be, but I can if I want.
I have the ball that glows when it hits things. I'm not sure it is a good thing - I wouldn't want it being thrown, for instance, because foam things do quite enough damage. But I can make it flashy and wave it around. I like it.
... I like the discos because I can dance with the flashy lights, and sometimes if there's few people I can make shadow shapes on the wall. I have long wavey bits of cloth to go on my wrists to facilitate this.
Actually this time I only have the one of them, for the others are a bit raggedy.
... But they take up hardly any space so I'll go put the two black ones in as well... Okay, more wavey!
I packed the corset. Last time I wore it two nights and didn't hurt anywhere. This is promising. Even if I do need a new one that doesn't sproing at inconvenient moments.
I did not pack anything particularly costume-y. I mean, yeah, silver metallic isn't everyone's idea of day wear, but I mostly have black t-shirts and... more black t-shirts with different patterns on, come to think.
Huh.
I did my nail polish. Silver metallic everywhere. Not imaginative, but very shiny.
I sorted money into the useful and secret places.
I copied out both room and ticket details twice.
I'm *slightly* concerned because my SG11 tickets haven't materialised, but when I emailed they said the reg desk would sort me out.
I guess worst comes to worst I'll just buy a new reg on the door. Don't bother me any.
I definitely have a booking number at the Thistle. We shall see if this translates into a room.
Despite having checked a bazillion times I remain worried that somehow I'll turn up for the wrong convention on the wrong week in the wrong building.
... as long as they have a party, I don't think I'd especially mind ...
Also, and fairly importantly, I have watched an episode of Stargate.
From season 9. Which I still haven't finished.
I shall go watch another one now.
