couple of problems
it would only really work if I could play with actual actors
and
it went rather dark in ways I do not wish to play with.
Body swap.
Tosh-Jack
Owen-Ianto
Tosh because imagine Jack's personality, body language, general style, but on tiny Toshiko body. She'd be swooshing around flirting in Jack fashion, using all those conversation power moves, and it would look totally different even if it was exactly the same.
And conversely Jack going all restrained and tentative and mostly sitting at the computer.
Though Tosh would totally play with his
wrist computer.
... and, okay, yes, body swaps turn into porn bunnies.
Tosh likes girls. Girls like Jack. Does Tosh like girls that like Jack? Could certainly have fun finding out. But probably wouldn't, even if he told her she could. Many kinds of complicated.
Owen and Ianto? I want to swap them just because they have this whole power thing going on and it would be interesting seeing how messy it would get.
It also made me think about how they've handled physical confrontations between the two of them thus far. I mean, Ianto is definitely taller, right? But gets kind of splatted. And then goes for the equalizing tech. But Owen, he gets in fights all the time, and mostly comes out ahead. He has that line about using an opponent's aggression against them. The words 'vicious little bastard' spring to mind.
Would he be different if he was notably not little?
Also I had a funny sequence in mind about constructing identity through clothes and how Ianto would be all "Do you even own a suit?" and Owen would be turning up in jeans and that ratty t-shirt Ianto had stashed somewhere to turn into dusters over the top of a long sleeve top Ianto hasn't worn since... well, ages, or possibly Countrycide, depending.
But then there would be deconstructing the lines, the distinctions. This being both Torchwood and a porn bunny. Get them naked and the differences would show a lot less.
So a naked Ianto with Owen driving would still look like naked Ianto.
Jack fancies naked Ianto.
And Owen, being Owen, would want to have sex while in a new body.
I think Ianto would have issues with that both ways round - wouldn't particularly want to play with Owen's equipment, and certainly wouldn't want Owen going out on the pull with his.
Tosh? Probably not loving the idea of what Jack could do with her body, either way around. But if she wants to borrow his for a while... well, within the group, what could it hurt, right?
... which is where it got dark. Because in my head Jack-as-Tosh was in bed with Owen-as-Ianto and called him Ianto. Owen objects and Jack says he's looking at Ianto and Owen gets angry at being ignored. And suddenly the size difference is very, very relevant, the bad way.
Would Owen rape someone with force, deliberately, in some clear minded choice?
No. Don't reckon so.
But would he reckon he's started so he'll finish? Get rough, or start rough and get rougher? Whole other darkness - and possibly yeah.
So then there is ouch and badness and it looks like Ianto and Tosh but it's Owen and Jack and there is no way around that I want to write that scene, but there it is in my head being a bunny. Ugly bunny.
So anyways, then there is bruises and bitterness. Not on Owen-as-Ianto, because Jack has plans for Ianto's body and, for instance, ripping his throat out to stop him doing bad things would be somewhat contrary to those plans. So only Tosh body is really hurt. Double badness and much bitter.
Tosh-as-Jack would be shocked and hurt and sympathetic.
Ianto-as-Owen would want to kill somebody.
... suddenly I've found a framework where self-harm from Ianto actually does strike me as in character.
There would be a mess with Ianto!Owen shoving Owen!Ianto up against the wall and nearly stabbing him with a big chisel thing like Cyberwoman, but Tosh!Jack would grab him instead. And Jack!Tosh would make with the logic, and say he wants him in one piece for later.
Ianto!Owen would then have to think of some kind of subtle yet lasting revenge that he could to do Owen's body without functionally impairing it if he personally needs it later.
... I'm thinking piercings, tattoos; probably not castration because at this point they're not sure they'll be able to switch back. But ink and steel in areas Owen's not going to be best pleased with? That would work.
... be a whole different kind of bastardly. And, yeah, hurt Ianto at the time. But.
Maybe get something in Japanese about what a small cock Owen has?
... or just write his crimes in detail in said symbols.
Anyways, then there is still the comfort portion of the entertainment. And Ianto, being in Owen's body at the time, would not feel himself to be in a fit state to be doing the comforting. Which would leave Jack double miserable.
Tosh!Jack, however... Well, there's one girl body she both knows fairly well and can be pretty sure won't mind in the morning.

But, and this is important, of all the things I don't want to write? Rape is way the hell high up on the list.

Exploring the cyborg nature of Torchwood, the interdependence of humans and technology, how Jack and Tosh especially interact with tech and how Ianto might react to that, that's a much more interesting bunny.
