Is much more fun. No longer feels like one long intro. Characters exist, situation exists, now they can start playing consequences. Politics and stuff going boom, all good.
Also, Intendent Kira. In the slinky silver outfit. I would love to be able to pull that off.
... okay, pretty much a single intender, yes ...
ANYways
Other thing I noticed is that... how to say... the 'verse has earned a lot of investment from me, I guess. There's things with me that are an automatic gut level oh-no even though they're not stuff that comes up in RL. It's like how when I was watching Doctor Who and his spacesuit faceplate was cracked I was all "eeps!" without thinking about it. Or how Daleks and Cybermen are actually scary despite the whole pepperpot fact, though that's slightly embarrassing really. Watching DS9, seeing a federation ship go boom? Feels pretty real. Cause they've been as real as everything else on TV since I can remember.
I want to write something like that. Only with making it so the universe doesn't irritate the hell out of me on my pet issues.
(Why do all the guys have short hair and the girls long hair, except Kira, where it seems to be A Thing on purpose? Why is it interspecies dating is entirely acceptable but only in m/f pairs? Why do all the alien females have breasts???)
(And, okay, Jadzia Dax = old man is pretty cool, but... I guess it's like having The Disabled Person Episode, you know, where it's an Issue? Irritation.)
I had this idea for a reimagining of Blakes 7... which is actually kind of embarrassing cause it started with me dreaming of being Servalan so I basically tried to invent a way to be teh boss of everything and it actually work with logic and stuff, and then the rebels kind of stop making sense and you run out of plots.
But along the way I had little ideas like having gender be an outdated concept and variation in clothing likewise so everyone wears sort of tunic things. And reproduces by growing newbie versions in reproduction centers, rather than that weird sex thing. And then the rebels would be discovering individual variation and, like, sequins, and feathers and stuff. And they'd end up with a rebel leader who reinvents being a drag queen, at least to 21st century eyes, but they're not freaked in his 'verse because he's expressing the wrong gender, just cause there's all this shiny expression in the first place.
Or just have it all based off some part of history where the males were peacocks and wore high heels and stuff. Cause that happens. Yet whenever there's a distant future? All the women have oddly decade-of-origin appropriate beauty makeup.
Just having different planets do makeup like they're from the 50s or something would be distinctive.
... the makeup thing apparently bugs me. Even if it do usually look pretty. Why don't the boys get to be pretty too?
Mind you, lots of blokes wandering around in robes with earrings, pretty good start.
