That was really lame.

Daleks are scary. Yet somehow Daleks with pig men beside them become unscary. And oddly cthuloid businessmen aren't particularly scary at all, when you know they're just a Dalek. I mean, that way they're Daleks without weapons, or tank shells, or any of the clever technical tricks. They're humans with delusions of Dalek-hood, really. Bloody boring.

And, yeah, it was fun having the Daleks sulk at humans for always surviving in exactly the terms the Doctor sulked at the Daleks, but it's not exactly subtle.

And teh whole point of Dales is they don't evolve. I mean, that's why you can't fix them, because they won't change. What is the point of Daleks that evolve? That makes them every other kind of thing.

I mean basically they just threw away the Dalek uniqueness. Unless the Daleks give it up as a bad job by the end, which would be the triumph of stupidity.

On the other hand the historical aspects of the story, Hooverville and the treatment of workers putting up the empire state building and why the show must go on cause you starve if it doesn't - that's just cool.

So I'm actually saying that Daleks are detracting from an interesting story. Wierd.

The Doctor using Martha to ask the questions, and Martha actually standing up and asking them? Nice. Very nice.

The declassifieds say the episodes are about ambition and doing whatever is necessary to survive.
Which is interesting.

And that bit with the pig-man and his showgirl girlfriend is a classic.

I just... what did they do to the Daleks?
... I kind of liked where that Dalek has no panels on it's butt because they're doing something nefarious with it.

I also like what the Declassified just said, that they're taking an icon and hijaking it, making it a Dalek thing. Which makes capitalism=Dalek.
"they can pick off people on the margins of society, people who are not easily missed"
So I like that part.

Just... Dalek+Pigslave=-scary.
And cthuloid businessman in spats = NOT A DALEK.
Potentially scary on it's own, I don't know, but... NOT A DALEK.

So anyway, they'll have to do something spectacular with the other part to make me like this development. Right now I like everything except for that central newness.
... and it's not just because I dislike change in general.

... you know, the *other* purpose of the Declassified is to prove you can never geek more than RTD. Cause he's talking about Daleks like they're real, and making reference to truly ancient canon. That's just... special.
Fun.

One thing though - American accents... I was reading someone the other day bemoaning the kind of US accents you get on UK TV. So now I'm wondering...

Thing I do like: Gorgeous set design. Very very pretty stuff going on.
