Doctor Who: Human Nature

beccaelizabethAs per usual for a two parter, needs evaluating after the other half arrived.
Felt like a long beginning is all.
Although, there was one cool line right in the first minute - "They have a Time Agent's Vortex Manipulator"
... Time Agent = like Jack
Vortex Maniuplator = ?
time vortex
time travel... wristband?
would explain much.
There were nice bits like the messages he left her. And the Chameleon Arch is just spectacular cool.
That watch is not quite the stopwatch from Torchwood, it has a pattern on it.
... almost certainly not the same ...
... I mean we didn't exaclty see it all but... not the point.
They're showing the screaming bit on the Confidential now and it's even sillier to watch it filmed than to see it on the episode.
John Smith is kind of fun. Historian. But the moment he lets them take the kid away to beat was a realy eyebrow raised moment. And then we get how he treats Martha, which is totally *facepalm*.
I love it that he uses a cricket ball for his weird little hero moment. Because this we have seen before.

On a themey level there's a ton going on in this half of the story. Stuff about war
"find honor and valour... let's hope this country can find it's heroes in small places, in the most ordinary of deeds"

but that's so cool, that's what the thing is, the Doctor with a screwdriver.
... now they're talking about 1913 as a golden age... er, eeew, no... sorry, we just did a couple of lessons in lit about poetry "a just and proper war in which to prove yourself" says the guy on TV just now... yeah, there's a lot of nasty in there. Maybe they thought it was a golden age but there's a lot of stuff makes me feel kind of sick.
So the Confidential is making the point.

Confidential this week is full of fun bits.
The kissing bits... fell in love with a human woman "and it wasn't me" wasn't it?
... I'm kind of watching through my fingers in the same all going crunch soon way as with the piano accident.
The stuff about her being a widow... oh dear god they're using that "lovely lady lumps" song in the Confidential. Someone needs shooting! How... eeeeeeew.
She's a widow so she's experienced, and he's in the position of being the novice... says the Confidential.
See I liked it because we know the Doctor has lost so many people that I could see him understanding, sparking with someone who has also lost. Which would make it keep on being sad when he's not John Smith any more, if you see what I mean. I mean if JS is a completely new guy he's no fun, but if he's just tiny extracts of Doctor and keeps enough they feel the same... Issues.
But their logic "she's quite forward for a woman of her age"... actually vaguely pisses me off. *shrugs*
... they're showing them learning to dance. I'm not watching cause *facepalm*.
Except he's sort of extra cute being less good at stuff. And the hair ruffling when he's not scripted right then... Oh dear.
... still skinny though.
ack. why the Confidential so much longer if it full of junk?
mind you, everyone's going to think different bits are junk.
The bit where he takes human form same like bad aliens, that's interesting. Only he does it by changing himself, hurting himself, and they do it by changing others, hurting others. Key there.
He mentions Gallifrey without knowing where it is. Learned to draw there. heh.
I watched the 'next week' bit. I predict most of the images are a might have been.
That psychic kid who nicked the watch is interesting but depressing. Looks like he's going to keep the watch and get killed on exactly the minute he foresaw.
... just showed schoolboy going for beer and getting ate. See kiddies - beer bad!
... except Martha went for a drink too. But got interrupted before she drank it.
Aliens have got an invisible ship and a Time Agent's Vortex Manipulator. Hmmm.
They probably ate someone to gets it.
Story.
Invisible ship mime does again look even sillier when you see it being filmed. It worked fine in the story, but always silly looking.
... I hate the music on the Confidential. It adds nothing and irritates me.
The scarycrows don't suck, but I nearly forgot about them, so they weren't exactly central neither. Meh.
Taking the mundane and making it creepy - you know, I've just realised why they don't quite work - when was the last time you saw a scarecrow that *wasn't* demonic, animate, and trying to kill people?
It's not mundane, it's a standard horror prop. It's like the Halloween decorations started trying to kill people. Only when that happened on Buffy they made it cool, so that's kind of not the point.
I do like the floppy movement now they've pointed it out. "lolloping" DT just said. That's a good word.
You know why I'm just nearly bored? Cause it's not the Doctor, and it's not clear if this is any part of him. If the story is not telling us about him then it's not a good story. But if it is, what's it telling us? So I'm just a bit short of bored. I mean I was interested all through but with that feeling like I was waiting for the story to start.
Confidential just said next week is about the consequences of his actions - yes, Doctor, you used a bunch of schoolkids to hide behind! That's just classy! I mean, for once, they *weren't* in danger before he got there. He brought the danger.
... by trying to not be The Doctor.
... hmmm.
But you know the thing I'm left arrgh about?
I'm going to be at a convention this time next week.
... yeah, methinks I'll be in my room for part 2.
