The thing I love most about Torchwood is that anyone could shag anyone.

Sometimes it works out rather badly. I'm still real annoyed at 1-07.

But we have a SF show, a show where it's not starting off as being about queer folks, that just happens to have a lot of queer characters. I love that. A lot.

And yet so far, what have we seen most of?

same old same old. het ships.

We got a couple of tantalising hints of Jack/Ianto, and I really hope they do more with that.

But they also ladled it on about Jack/Gwen, and I'd really like to hope it weren't futile to hope they don't do more of that.

It isn't because I dislike Gwen. Even if I loved Gwen the closest I'd get to wanting to include her is threesome. Like Jack and Martha and the Doctor, as long as there is some Jack/Doctor there's plenty of room for Martha.

But that thing where you've got the two series leads and they have UST and significant glances and set them up with some kind of true love thing... if those leads are a guy and a girl, we have seen that before. I personally have seen that so many times I'm fed up of it. I don't seek it out. I would in fact avoid it, if - big if! - there were in fact an alternative.

Can you name me a show that *doesn't* ship their m/f leads? UST *everywhere* and all of it het.

Classic DW has a lack of kissing. I like that. They get on with running away from Daleks and stuff and it's quite refreshing.

Torchwood? Jack/Ianto. Sexual tension, and m/m. Quite possibly resolved sexual tension, for the win. And we have something *new*.

If there's any other show - any F&SF at all - where there's a same sex relationship, please do tell. I know about Buffy. I love Buffy. But where's the *other* show? And where are the guys?

Jack/Ianto would be shiny new, damn near unique, and exactly what I actually do seek out in my fiction.

Jack/f would not.

and also girls. Tosh needs a nice new girlfriend. Who isn't crazy. Or evil. Or dead.

but that's a whole other complain.

I wish I knew the coding to make the little hearts in here because you get love in copious amounts.

Lets list some shows and the lead couples! X-files= Mulder/Scully, Bones= Booth/Bones, Angel/Buffy respectively as well as Spike/Buffy as he became a more male lead towards the series end, and there are others as well.

Jack/Ianto is grand because it IS canon slash as you've said and it's not the super architype canon slash. Ianto's first emotional introduction is with his girlfriend that he'll go to the ends of the universe and back for. The classic architype of the het warrior who's out to save his imprisoned girlfriend. Yet here he is partnering up with our sexual rogue, the dark hero, for reasons yet unknown but at the end its obvious that our wounded warrior loves him enough to weep into Jack's coat when he thinks that his captain is gone.

Its WONDERFUL! And considering that RTD is giggling about putting the gay back in sci-fi, its curious as to why he'd can that relationship so quickly and -god I hope not- possibly replace it with the painfully stereotypical het lead/lead relationship. Don't let us down RTD! Be the guy who lets Bond shag Moneypenny and not the floozy lead of the current film!

Ianto does the food, the transport, the secretary-filing stuff, random research, and the cleaning. He's the office mom. He's got exactly the kind of no credit support work most frequently associated with low paid women. And then he gets kisses from the stunningly hot boss. There's a standard romance novel in there, except for the thing where they're both guys. I likes it.

i agree, if RTD slides into the Jack/Gwen angle, im going to go mental. Because heres the perfect chance for something different to the usual. If he shies away from Jack/Ianto, im going to be so disappointed.

I know T__T I don't want to be disappointed in TW or RTD especially since he's supposedly going to step away from DW during season 4 so that he can focus more on TW as he's all giddy about that. However, if he's going to take the easy way out from what could easily lead him to much acclaim for going out on a limb and portraying a-first gay sci-fi couple and b-a HEALTHY gay couple (doesn't even have to be picking out china serious or anything).

If he's out to bring the gay to sci-fi then bring it, don't fear stereotyping JB as Jack's out for any/all booty. RTD is the kind of person I want to be when I grow up... or rather when I finally admit I'm an adult and need to act more like it!

I've read a few interviews regarding the second series and it seems to mention Gwen/Jack alot...*yawn* i couldnt think of a more mundane couple. Im hoping its just to divert peoples attention so that when a really interesting pairing happens its explosive.
what ever happened to the 'gay agenda'? i was so excited! i was thinking 'yes, heres a show that will have gay elements without it being rediculous and awful'.
I dont understand if it will be Gwen and Jack because...gees...its lazy when thres so many other possibilities.

I agree with everything you said lol It would be very nice to have a show that, at least in part, steered away from a 'conventional' pairing. Gwen and Jack have chemistry, yes, and he cares about her, but it's not a romantic relationship, and I don't see how it ever could be.

Jack and Ianto would be wonderful and, since there are already canon moments, we know that it is a possibility. And it's a veeery nice one lol Whether they actually take it anywhere is a different matter. That would be really, really nice :3

As for Tosh needing a nice girlfriend? Yes please :D
