Love potions
Dec. 20th, 2004 05:04 amI have decided I dislike love potions. A lot. Really, really, really a lot. Using them as a way to get characters into bed with someone they otherwise wouldn't? Reads to me like non-con. Like a 'date rape drug'. It makes me vaguely sick. And when one or both of those characters then turn their back on people they loved before the potion? That just hurts. If is a character I care enough to read about in the first place. I'm not there for the sexcapades, certainly not the drug induced ones, I'm there for the emotions. Fake emotions are just bad.
This mini rant pretty much unnecessary and irrelevant, but hey, is my journal, I can rant if I want to...

Got it. I knew I'd listed it in my essay on Spike/Ethan...

Date: 2004-12-20 10:51 am (UTC)Well, I thought the characterization worked. I could see S5 Spike consider a love potion, and I could see Ethan providing one. I liked the irony that they get tangled up in their own web. The author doesn't exactly explicitly distance herself from the whole thing, but I enjoyed it anyway.
Sorry if the link offended you.
