obscure and tentative happy dance
Dec. 23rd, 2004 11:05 pmHave discovered part of the reason I'm not really writing my huge-plotty-fanfic-series-of-doom is the story I have plotted out is actually the wrong one. I was trying to do too many things at once. And, importantly, trying to take Ethan too many steps away from canon at once. And have Ripper and Ethan carry the entire story between them, without sufficiently weaving them into their world. So, I thought I would have to really pull the story apart to get rid of the elements I now don't want there, but have discovered that like a thread that isn't really woven in they just slide out smooth. Everything else stays the way it was when I was planning, which should be proof enough right there I didn't really need all that.
So, is obscure because no one else knows what I'm on about anyway, but I'm doing the tentative happy dance of probably improved the big story. Possibly even to the point where it is writeable now. Cool :)
Of course I have to finish my cultural studies assignment and The First Time first, but after than, big-plotty-fanfic-series-of-doom! Eventually. I think.
Incidentally, this is why I don't like posting WIP, because this happens to me far too often. I get a whole heap of bunnies at once and try to write them all at once and then spend ages teasing them apart until I have only one actual story at a time. If I start showing the story to people before I get to wherever I get stuck then they've all seen the tangled version. And, being tangled, I do usually get stuck somewhere.

Date: 2004-12-23 03:53 pm (UTC)The problem with laundrette laundry is stuff disappearing while not in the house. Which would be the forgetting stuff while not having somewhere to write it down problem. this is a neat metaphor ;)
