Sarah Jane Adventures 2nd story
Oct. 8th, 2007 06:14 pmI have cunning plan to only watch it every other week and not have to wait in the middle of a story.
This week: Fun!
So there's a Gorgon but no snake hair. So when the Doctor was telling that the medusa was just a story back in the Mind Robbers (was it?) then he was in fact technically correct. Sort of.
Luke needs telling not to get in cars with strangers. And is really bad at secrets. Oh dear.
And thus they teach a new generationnot to trust nuns. And they get to feel superior even if he does have much smartness.
I like the bit with the old ladies and how nobody bothers listening except Sarah Jane, who is a bit of a crazy old lady herself except for not old and not crazy. erm, that sentence made more sense in my head when I started it. But I mean, here we get nifty comparison stuff.
I like it that the talisman didn't magic the Alzheimers, because that would be too much magic really. But what it did do was sweet.
I don't really like what they're doing with Maria's absent parent. I mean, I've said before how it's downright creepy to make parents get back together as reward for kid. But also, looked at as a representation of mother-who-leaves? Why is she the ditzy one who hasn't got anywhere to live except with boyfriends? Why is she so self centered she can't get names right? I know why she's the one who says don't hang around with Sarah Jane - she's saying a sensible thing but without the data to back it up, thereby making it look just like a prejudice and making it sound stupid.
She's also the one who makes it about Sarah Jane fancying Maria's dad. Making that sound stupid too. And yet not in fact getting in the way of it if it turns possible later. I'd rather it didn't though, again it would be too tidy and too much about dating.
I like it when SJ says she's got someone to share it all with. Makes it important to have friends that believe, not the dating part.
I don't like it that they're now lying and doing coverups. Why not tell her dad the truth? Why make her mum look like she's lying or crazy? Isn't that exactly what everyone does to SJ?
So that's something to fix then. As in a way for character development to go - ditzy mum can turn into hero mum via investigation.
The bit where they're not helping her I don't like.
So, generally, still like it.
And also, who else was drooling about that library? Pretty! And full of books!
