Doctor Who and the Daemon

The one episode that wasn't redone from video is just a teensy noticeable - all the rest terrible fuzzy.
I like "Chap with the wings - five rounds rapid"
Brigadier just entirely unflappable... and perpetually useless, poor dear. Actually just got his men killed for no good reason, since the Doctor and Jo sorted it all out and the gargoyle wouldn't have killed anyone as wasn't shooting at it. Oh well. I did like the unexplosion, that was cool. I quite liked all the times the Brigadier's stick caught fire too. Makes me giggle.
As did the ending. The Doctor sends the Master away for later, sends Jo to get her dress off, and then there's a fertility dance. Sadly there's reclothing in between. Woefully inauthentic. But, fertility dance, not subtle. And Yates asks the Brigadier if he wants to dance :-)
... he says no and they go for a pint. Heh.
Sometimes though you really have to work at it to not see subtext.
There was also highly amusing costumes of wrinkly tights and visible zippers, but mocking those is far too easy. But really, demon with wrinkly tights, *shakes head*
Doctor was being right daft about magic though. Like the white witch lady said, his description was exactly what magic is, only the Doctor says not. He just likes words like psionics instead. Silly.
... the Master doing black magic with the devil horns hands does not get less amusing.
Also, DW does Ancient Astronaut theory - all them science advances? A Daemon Did It.
... it's rather annoying, really. Humans in DW are more pushed around than pushing.
I was thinking about how their TV would be very different, having 3 BBC channels that broadcast past midnight and yet no Doctor Who at all. More TV, different influences. And all that technology they seem to have in assorted stories, that ought to change the world a bit too. But no, Torchwood world is pretty much this world as far as most people can see. Except with neat communications satellites of mind control.
That Archangel thingy, that could be black magic too, all that fear psionics. But in the Daemons the Doctor defeats them with Science! and the Master tries to fool people with Magic, even though it isn't fooling if it does in fact do what it says on the tin. But later the Doctor just goes all magic and doesn't bother with a sciencey explanation. Meh.
Now I want to go watch more. The only trouble would be deciding which bit of more to watch. waaaay too many to decide from...
