Smoke and Ashes
Dec. 15th, 2007 10:37 pmHappy ending kisses! Yaays!
... except... I don't know, somehow less yaays than I'd have thought at the end of the previous book. Like... it wasn't about yearning so much as 'hurry up and get on with it', cause everyone was telling them off and he was mostly annoyed at him. Which still works, but. *shrugs*
I liked the whole growing into his power yet still being stupid about it thing there was going on. I liked the whole plot, basically.
I was reading reviews for these books and I think the ones that didn't like it maybe aren't playing with the intertextual references and the fan stuff as much. I mean, with that stuff it's *hilarious*, but I don't know if it works so well without it. But there's all the little details with references to other films and TV and being entirely aware of teh cliche but putting that particular set of characters through it and making it interesting. I like it. A lot.
... now I have read them all. And if there's another book then there will be worrying again about the kissing parts. Because obviously there's so much room to split them up... and that would matter because it's not like I could just stick with the first season stories... :eyeroll:
Actually it does annoy me when a series goes off places I don't want it to. Much harder to enjoy the earlier bits in quite the same way. Still, having had much practice in denial, not actually hard per se.
This series? I like. Without having to ignore bits.
