I'm watching Catwoman.
... the things I do for Peter Wingfield...
who, incidentally, should probably stick with his own accent.

So far, the not-Catwoman seems to have died of stupid. Which is entirely consistent with earlier where she nearly died of a different stupid. Basically thus far if she does get brought back by mystical an intersetingly CGI cat then I'm hoping it replaces the brain, because really, two stupids in the first half hour? :eyeroll:

Also - what's with wasting half an hour on an origin story when there's already a perfectly good Catwoman?

Also also - she's a female superhero therefore the bad thing has to be makeup related??? The stupid, it is not just her.

Luckily I'm only watching this until another film I missed the first 17 minutes of rolls around again on a +1 channel.

... or possibly until the Muppet Christmas Carol starts. I realised I only have that on video. Sad.

*watches film some more*
oh dear.
*facepalm*

You're a better woman than I am. I only watched it through Peter's part and a few minutes more. That was all I could take. Then it was 'bye-bye' Catwoman. Poor Peter. I adore him, but good grief, you know....

Wow, someone else whom survived the viewing of that movie.

Thing is, I think it could have worked with Halle Berry in the role had they just taken her origin straight from the comics instead of giving her a mystical origin. I didn't understand that.

Halle Berry could easily have played a savvy, smart, and willy Catwoman kicking around in Gotham City, caught up in a gig over valuable jewel stealing and not liking the fact that her client tried to keep her in the dark about something.

It could have worked...

I could only watch the trailer. I watched parts of the movie with the sound off but I was soon laughing too hysterically to pay any attention. So then I watched it in fast forward with the sound off. It was better.

I agree that in terms of appearance, Halle makes a great Catwoman. What I liked about Catwoman: Her Sister's Keeper and much later, Volume 2 of her book, was that her mixed ethnicity was emphasized. Whether you say she's part Italian, Hispanic or go old school with Black, she ain't lilly white. It's, y'know, symbolic not only of her social status, but also, the American melting pot - the true American, if you will. *shrugs* I easily see Halle as Selina, unfortunately, the movie had nothing to do with the comic and viewers aren't so stupid they didn't notice.

I will never understand the fearful, neurotic hollywood urge to gut the content of what makes the source compelling.

There was an excellent Catwoman movie that came out in 1999. It was just called Entrapment, not Catwoman, but it was everything a Catwoman ought to have been: a cool caper flick, not unlike Ocean's Eleven or Sneakers, but with an attractive actress as the lead burglar. How they managed to screw up that formula with the actual Catwoman movie, I'll never really understand.
