what would I sell
Jan. 4th, 2005 12:44 pmHad a dream I signed up at a new college that had much prettier architecture (looked all gothic like churches) and then went looking for somewhere to live by walking down the road looking for 'to let' signs. Found some gorgeous architecture, kind of art nouveau, big round shapes and swirly edges. But that building was all hollow, only brick shell, no floors or anything. Then I saw a fairly run down but also pretty and nouveau flat above a shop. When I walked over there to get the details it turned out two guys were being shown around right then so they let me tag along to see the place. And it turned out it wasn't just the flat but also the shop that was for rent. So I looked around, and it was a really nice place, warm and homey and, okay, probably haunted but *shrugs* must be a nice kind of haunted cause it felt nice there. So I was seriously thinking about renting the place and then figuring out what to do with the shop part later. Possibly involving books, and food and drink.
So when I woke up I realised I'd never really thought about running an actual shop, and tried to think what I could sell. It could be kind of like Fantoosh down the road, that sells incense and UV reactive tie dye stuff and sculptures and crystals and jewellery and new age books. Only, more occult than new age. (Or at least a less flaky version of new age than some). But also if I was selling books I could sell stuff like Kulture Shock does, fantasy & sf and cult stuff. And it could have furniture that was technically for sale but usually for sitting on with cups of... well, I don't drink coffee, so not just coffee. And my taste in food tends to run to all day breakfast, so me running a cafe... would kind of work I guess. But somehow diner with occult books seems kind of strange.
Or possibly just eclectic enough to suit me.
Only problem being if I can name the shops it would be just like and I know they arent the most prosperous businesses ever then making a new place just like them would not in fact be helpful.
And also, I don't know any place with architecture that has gothic college and nouveau shops right down the way from each other. Except the town in my head, which remains remarkably consistent.
And also also, math and money and the incapable-of-work thing, but that would be more the real world.
It was just a new idea. Since my current plan is to study one day a week for the next decade until I have a degree, there is plenty of room for new plans.
