So, for my New Year I have watched:
Last of the Time Lords, slowly and making notes on all the Jack parts. But skipping most of the plot. Basically there was just the guys doing Acting. They can really do that rather well. The writers should have their CGI confiscated and only be allowed to use it for things people won't notice. And also the ageing makeup, that's just not helpful. Just get some actual rather good actors together and give them just enough script and keep the flashy out of their way.
I now theorise that the Master is not being all camp disco with the lighting, he's got the skybase on mauve alert.
... it's still just funny that his designed-every-detail plan includes the mood lighting to do that.
So then I wanted to watch stuff that was not depressing. So, er, I watched bits of Cyberwoman, the end of They Keep Killing Suzie, and the whole of Captain Jack Harkness.
... needless to say I'm seriously sniffly now.
And then I skipped to the end of 1-13 as well. Ianto! Coat! Hug Ianto! And then he does hug Ianto, yaay! And, er, then there's the good-for-Jack-except-we-know-what-happens-next special sound effect. It's like yaay and look out all at once. *sigh*
I was thinking though - on one of the commentaries, I can't remember which right now, someone reckons the doors behind the armoury lead to the car park, sort of thing. The place the SUV lives. So now I see how to bridge 1-13 and 3-11... huh, is that really how they're numbered? Why did I not notice that mirror thing before? ANYway, 1-13 ends with Jack disappearing. He didn't use the cog door, he'd have passed Ianto et al. He didn't go up in line of sight of his office again, cause Gwen didn't see him go. He didn't use the invisible lift because (a) probably parked right on it and (b) would have taken long enough they'd see and (c) he ran in from the far end. SO, there's another exit - and the commentary reckons there's one through the armoury doors. He could have gone out that way. And it's a logical place to keep an emergency go bag, is the car park. Or the armoury, depending on the contents. So anyways, he could get a bag and go whoosh and disappear and have to run in from the other end and it all fits.
We haven't seen them ever use that door. Probably because RL it leads somewhere unhelpful; I think they mentioned the TARDIS? Urgh, wish I remembered which commentary I'm half remembering. Wonder if I LJed about it... But anyway, existence of alternative exit in Cyberwoman wouldn't have made a difference because they tried and failed to get the armoury doors open anyway. The only oddness is that they brought prisoner girl back, presumably in SUV, and then came in via the cog door. So I'm not sure the theory entirely works. But I guess it wouldn't be very sensible to take prisoners in through the armoury! So yaay, that works again. Yes? No? Maybe?
Anyway. That was my New Year's Day so far.
There's a whole start as you mean to go on thing there. I think I need some sleep next, but that was a pretty good start. If my year has lots of Torchwood and DW in it, I can live with that.
... it kind of needs to have essay in it too. But hey, I'm doing looking very carefully at texts, that's like study! (Did you notice Jack's wrists are all red and ouched looking in the scenes on the Valiant? They're mostly in his pockets, but when they're not there's lines on them where it's not dirty just sort of too pink. Is nice details.) (On the other hand if he's been being killed regularly all year it has been remarkably easy on his clothes, cause that's the same outfit he had at the start. Mind you, the Doctor got a mini pinstriped brown outfit when he shrank, so clearly providing appropriate clothes was a priority on the Valiant.)
So, anyways, 0707, time to go sleep.
