Torchwood 2-07 Dead Man Walking

And - woohooo! Owen! Being precariously undead and kinda sorta back but not exactly. How cool is that? And also? An Owen that can't drink or shag? Is going to have to develop a character.
... possibly a very depressed one.
Okay, so that was very very cool all the way through. There was the action side, with weevils and gloves and skeleton wrestling. That was cool in that incredibly cracky way we've come to know and love. But the best bit was the emotional side. It wasn't just 'lalala not dead wheee!' it was all about the emotional reactions to the deadness. I mean, how many characters have to come to terms with being already dead? Okay, actually, come to think, at least a few in each and every one of my favourite texts... I'm possibly a bit too goth. But. They did it really well this time.
And without being too squishy. I mean, Jack and Owen had a moment... after Owen had to puke up everything he drank and farted enough to gas them both, and then Jack shoved him in a very boy way, and really, that was... okay, actually, squishy might describe the puke part, but it wasn't soppy. And there was Owen totally taking the piss with describing what dying was like. And he got hugs with Gwen, that being the closest to acknowledging last seasons / as they've come this year, but at that very moment he's talking about coming back Wrong.
And hello to the Jack mirror. Darkly. Which he kinda was in season 1 as well, arrogant and violent and with an attitude to sex that goes maybe too far. But this year, Jack seemed a bit happy shiny and issue-resolved... and here's Owen to drag him back and go one further. But in an Owen-y way, not just being about Jack. I likes it.
Tosh? Got a kiss... to trick her. Ouch. And Owen knew she'd hate him for it. And... used precisely that. So he might talk like he thinks she never really meant it, but... Hmmm. I mean, seriously, they have a much better Issue getting in the way there than the whole him not noticing thing. Is it still necrophilia if he's conscious?
... yes, I howled laughter at that one.
So she's told him and for the first time I can actually feel for the whole thing and yet whoosh, big mess.
I loved how that bit leads to them finding out the danger bit.
I think the thing I loved best though was that Jack used the glove... but only in 2 minute mode. They thought they had time to say goodbye. That's all he tried for.
... although, have to say, why? When he has the knife too? Didn't couldn't risk it?
But to pour it all in to those minutes... and then he's still not dead. That whole bit was brilliant.
Martha though... I'm still spoiler free, apart from the 'Next Week' which incidentally looks bloody cool, but I have hopes for Owen beyond next week because Martha? Doesn't seem much like a replacement. She didn't get plot mileage like she did last week. She was wiped out in distress for half of it... and before that she was actually more like the threat, up to a point. I mean, she represented opposition to the plan. And she was annoyed at Jack big time. And, importantly, she was annoyed on behalf of UNIT. She identifies pretty strongly there, and not here. So I don't know how long she's sticking around... but she doesn't feel like she's slotting in to the team. I mean, if Owen had stayed dead (bad!) she could have in a sort of pay him back way, but he's wandering around and it all got complicated and... she wasn't the story. But she wasn't left out of the story either.
This was a good team episode. I mean, Ianto got the least emotional mileage... and actually brought some black humour with the bit with the stick. I mean, what? And everyone else looking it like WTF? In the middle of something trying to kill them. Bloody brilliant. BUT Ianto didn't get his quiet conversation with Owen. Which, well, considering it was him shot him last time, could have been kind of fraught.

And yes, a fracked up Owen with Issues the size of planets that are once again the twisty rubber band driving him, and once again putting him at odds with Jack in a twisted kind of way, and ooooh I could totally have fun with this set up. Brilliant.
Also? I've written zombie fic before. Zombie slash fic even. If the sensory nerves are still working? Lack of blood is only a problem until you start getting creative.
... and I just had the most hot/disturbing mental image involving Tosh and a strap on and Owen with his wounds showing. Oh hell, that's going to take some brain bleach...

So, anyways, I've been awake since 0645 and an actual coherent review is waaaaay beyond me, but damn that was a good episode, and I'm totally looking forward to next week.
... ooh, I've got to do more college before then. Bother. Can't just rewatch Torchwood all the times like the other weeks.
