Plot bunny attack

We all know theres a missing scene in A New Man where Ethan takes Giles home and they end up in bed. I've read a lot of fic where they ignore condoms (and use magic for lube). And I've read fic where Ethan is dying of AIDS. These factlets just got together in my head and made the icky nasty plot bunny of Why Giles Doesnt Touch Anyone (especially if theres blood). Now the bunny is sitting there trying to persuade me of its logical consistency.
I mean Giles has not, as far as we know, been sexually involved with anyone since last time Ethan visited. Maybe theres a reason a little less romantic than 'he's waiting for Ethan'.
But at the end of season 5 Giles was bleeding everywhere and didnt noticeably freak about it. So maybe that was when he found out. Maybe he had extra reasons for not wanting to hang around in Sunnydale. Maybe he was with the coven to try some magical healing. Maybe no one in season seven had seen him eat because he had to rely on conventional medecine while he was travelling and side effects were making him ill.
I'm pretty sure this bunny doesn't fit really, but there is some mileage in it. I really do not want to do this particular bad thing to Giles. But already in my fic I intend to explore the idea of lycanthropy as an infection, and the idea that Oz losing control and doing what he really wants to do could kill someone. Metaphor thinly enough cloaked right there. But Giles doesnt have to have AIDS to understand what it is like to feel like everything you touch is corrupted. Already the majority of people we've seen him involved with have ended up dead. And him being with them changed their lives, and arguably not for the better. Giles could have a lot of relevant guilt without being terminally ill himself. So I dont think I want to use this one in my own fic.
