The Rift event
Apr. 26th, 2008 09:50 pmI'm back in my hotel, with internet access.
The observant among you may notice it is only 2151 on a planned to end at 10pm event. No, I didn't teleport. I in fact navigated London... eventually successfully.
James Marsters is ill, said flu or something he ate, so the gig is cancelled.
I hope he gets well soon.
I also rather a bit grumpy because I was stretching myself just a teensy (bit much) to stay to the end, and then it turned out I could have gone three hours earlier when I first attempted to and not in fact missed anything.
... my first attempt got as far as the bus stop and then got stubborn about not missing things. Is no fair.
There was something happening on stage when I left. Kai Owen had got up and started doing karaoke sans music and with audience participation. He said he was going to find it funny because he was pissed. No, he was fucking pissed!
... yeah, no. Thanks. There are a few people who manage funny in that state. Yet I do not risk it.
ANYway
I had a brilliant day.
In fact even with this ending it is up there in Best Days Ever.
... don't ask me how much money I spent to do it.
Actually I budgeted a bit wonky, cause I got money out the wall at college, came here, spent all my con funds... then realised I'd just spent my ticket home.
... oops?
So I went to nearest cash machine and got some more.
Those of you who do not follow the Saga of Becca do not know how entirely surprising this is.
I went outside. On my own. Repeatedly!
And for reward I got to see Gareth. :-)
It turned out to be lucky I had more cash cause my name was drawn for the coffee-with (which turned out to be coke-with, which I didn't drink.) So I got to go sit right next to GDL while he talked.
And then I made words too.
Again, for those just tuning in who know not the saga of my stuttering and general nervous silence, this is in fact a big deal in and of itself, even without the famous person factor.
... don't ask me what I said. I only hope it made sense.
I can rest easy in the thought that even if I said something entirely filthy I could not have said ruder than Gareth did.
Most people don't start the Q&A with mentioning felching.
He also reads fanfic for the porn
and thinks that Captain John and Ianto would never get in a fight for Captain Jack - there'd just be a Ianto sandwich.
... I like him.
I was sitting right next to him trying not to bump into him too much under the table ( :-) ) and trying not to stare too much... I don't know why I bothered on that account, I think maybe because staring at someone from sitting right next to them is more staring than if they're the other side of a table.
He wears rings on his right hand. The one on his right ring finger has a bumpy texture. He fiddles with it sometimes.
I was sitting there doing nervous handrubbing and vaguely trying not to, so I noticed his hands.
So, anyways, I saw a lot of him. I saw the Q&As, the 10 person coffee-with, I got an autograph... I went to the front because the q was huge and chaotic and really winding me up and when I asked if there was a way to q sitting down they just whooshed me to the front. I only got GDL and James Marsters though. I, er, feel like I q jumped even though I wouldn't think that about any other disabled person. It's just there's all the other people standing there for hours and me going whoosh.
Oh, disability assistance - I emailed to ask about getting a seat on the end of the row, because it's seats assigned by rows and that leaves possibly just 2 that I can actually sit in, so when I went to go look for a seat when we got in this morning, my seat had my number on it. Neat!
... everyone else was standing in a line to buy photos and autographs and stuff.
... I wasn't impressed with the organisation today. It didn't seem to work the way we'd been told. Everyone seemed to spend all day standing up in lines. I don't know though, I skipped most of them except the photo line.
I got photos with Eve Mylse, Gareth David-Lloyd, and James Marsters.
Eve is really nice, she was hugging everyone. Not so much me. I do my standing very straight and not grabbing anything carefully thing, and mostly don't get grabbed.
But JM did the photo like that and then said he was going to hug me, so I got James hug.
... and, er, an accidental mouthful of shoulder, I think. Um, I was grinning and possibly saying something and I'm not good at hugs and... nobody's going to believe it's an accident, are they? I swear! Accident!
... smells nice, tastes better...
And later took his shirt off when I was just past in the autograph line.
In the Q&A he'd been saying how it's hard to get undressed with a lover cause they've seen Spike and might be expecting that. Cause that was him after 2 months preparation. He seems to think he's significantly not that shape now.
... dude, trust me, got nothing to worry about.
*has happy*
what else...
this is all out of chronological order.
erm... I missed the writer's panel because of the coffee thing. They couldn't put the coffee thing in one of the pauses? But I missed that. Except at the end they were asked if they read fanfic. One guy reckoned most of them started in fanfic. One guy reckoned he'd read some fanfic about why the Master was called Master and it was scary and he went away. But the not-porn end of fanfic he'd also written. But since I missed the start of the panel I don't know who was who anyway.
I thought up some questions but didn't get as far as asking them.
... all my brain stuff is jumbles right now.
... also I vaguely wonder if the whole thing is going to turn up on YouTube anyway.
Although the sound might be a bit... well, difficult. This was the talkiest main hall I've ever been in. You know how usually if you're in the main hall during a talk there's some degree of silence and attempting to listen? And if someone's phone went off you'd hear it and have crippling social embarrassment if it was yours?
My Time Lord watch did the talky flashy lights... and I couldn't hear it.
That's how talky the background noise was.
... yeah, today was *challenging*.
The fact I'm not yet in a little ball of woe is leaving me quite impressed with myself.
Random other bits... oh, my close encounter of the Eve kind today - I was waiting outside the disabled loo, and she turned up and I let her go first.
... there's a logical consequence of this. But I try and not be weird enough to notice.
Ways my day was made of lose - I left my waistcoat in the loo. This seems unbad, except for 'waistcoat' substitute 'handbag' and you'll get some idea of what was in it.
*facepalm*
... no, really, my day lacks facepalm.
I had photo hugs with James Marsters (yummy)
and Gareth David-Lloyd, who I also had conversation with
and Eve Myles, who is lovely, and giggles exactly like tee hee hee.
I will remember more tomorrow.
maybe.
... at many points I wished I had my laptop with me so I could transcribe it.
... at many other points I realised I'd walked off without my backpack *again* and was very glad I'd left it in the safe.
:eyeroll:

I don't know if I can handle the sheer amount of glee that generates :D GDL wins at life!!

Date: 2008-04-26 11:11 pm (UTC)He certainly seems to enjoy being the Eye Candy in that equation there :D I imagine though that you're right, how can you NOT -at the very least- enjoy the rubbed off filth that comes from long hours of bonding with John Barrowman?

Can you elaborate? Especially on the fanfic for porn (I may never be able to read it in the same way again, lol).

Date: 2008-04-28 03:57 am (UTC)Accidently biting JM? So there are happy accidents! LOL how many people were in the line when he took his shirt off. By the way it was my new friend (Who I met at the Rift) who got him to take it off, she dared him and he dared her. Fair game and all that.
I felt a bit the same about the hugging. My bro was saying to me in my photos I've got Why are you touching me and Don't touch me faces on. You want to know how suffocated by JM I was? I'm 6ft tall and in my photo we are the same height! But he's such a sweetie really.

Date: 2008-04-28 09:50 am (UTC)I ended up going to the wrong tube station and having to take the circle line back to my hotel and... well, it's funny from here.
Too damn tired.
Accidental biting of plays-Spike = my mum asking me if I'll be a vampire now.
I don't think so. No blood.
Hugging is difficult. I mean, if I could sneak up on it for a while then hugging might be fun, but when it's more like 'stand in line, now hug stranger, now go away' I, um, appear to give out Stay Away signs loudly. Oh well.
He is indeed sweet. *yummy*
