I am so bored. Once again it is two in the morning and I have spent many hours just lying here attempting sleep. Boredy bored bored bored with extra bored on it.

I've been sketching in a plot bunny some more. It turns out to be about Jack and Ianto without any of the DW 'verse or Torchwood trappings. Just a Captain and his... what is a Ianto anyway? Other half seems to cover it, but other than that... valet? Batman? Does many things.

I think in attempting to drag plot bunny away from ye standard vampire story I wandered into a Bujold setting about Rot. Except I can only vaguely recall that story. Anyways, I has a world where there's a High King, a bunch of Kings that are not so High, and a High Watch which answers only to the High King but not very often. The Watch goes out on the borders and sees how things are going. The High King, these days, does not. The Watch see things that the comfortable city folk have simply stopped believing in. And, more problematically, their High King has stopped believing in too. Rot that walks in human form? Brain rot! Rubbish! Nobody believe those stories any more.

Then there's the Eartha, the priestes who brings the Purity for the annual Renewal. Every soldier is supposed to carry a canister. Very, very few of them have had to use them lately. Mostly they think of them as ceremonial. And they're letting the ceremonies slip. The timing, especially. Who can be bothered to travel back for a particular day? What does it matter if it's a few weeks late? Okay, their Purity looks a bit gone off, but who really needs that stuff?

So when they finally do get together, all in one big hall, the Watch have been and gone, back to their patrol, and the Eartha is getting just a bit fed up of how she's been treated. She's got no problem with the Sky folks, why do they have a problem with her? But she's hanging in there. Just at the back of the hall, while their priest drones on at the front, in part about how wicked and wasteful her ways are. Fine. She'll wait outside.

So she's outside when the first attack hits.

I think the plot resolution involves becoming High King and making allies out of enemies, but mostly I seem to be focusing on the bits where there's cute couples that happen to look a bit like people off TV in my head.

There's a whole sub plot thing where the planet is a colony world and the Rot is what happened when terraforming met the native ecology and the Eartha ceremonial Keys are actually input devices for advanced technology but the Sky people wandered away from all that for mostly ideological reasons. I don't know as I like that whole 'wisdom of the ancients' thing, but I do like the thing where there's people who have declared the war over and won and settled down to their corner of comfort but then reality crashes in and they have to deal with stuff. There's way too many things where some law getting passed is taken to mean problem solved. Like how my mum wouldn't believe that women don't get equal pay, cause after all, there's a law. Yes, and there's still people bringing claims under that law. And when there were too many claims, and successful, for the system or economy to handle then the solution is, of course, to slow down the claims and blame lawyers, not to keep going until things are in fact equal.

I'm bored and cranky about politics and so I write about sneaky vampires nobody believes in any more. And in my head it makes perfect sense.

Bored, tired, and hot. Blah.

I go find thing to do.
