Jul. 15th, 2008 09:37 pmI turned off the computer so I could go sleep. But then my recorder box started recording something and that was a bit mysterious since I thought all the recording things had finished. Turns out it was still recording repeats of the Doctor Who Confidentials, probably cause they're shorter and different or maybe just because it's a stupid box. So I canceled that.
Then I looked at what else it had recorded and rediscovered "How TV changed Britain"
Some of them are a bit short and there's not many recorded. I think it clashed with something. Since the only other thing I record is Doctor who then it must have been that. Only I can't remember when it was on at all anyway.
The first one was about police, and impact of TV on them. Was fascinating.
I deleted the next one after I watched five minutes of it. Seemed to be about reality TV? was way short.
Third one is about women. I'm only 36 minutes in because I got my laptop out and started poking around in the options to try and fix the stupid network connection. Is most annoying because one tool thinks there's networks around (and has a very pretty graphic interface. the Toshiba tool looks like it's all orbits. but it won't connect anything because other software is in charge. But if the network card isn't there like the other software says how is the thing finding these networks? Blah. Not like I know.) but the other won't find the capacity to find them, much less connect, and now I'm all annoyed.
stuck a wire in the back and now it works.
ANYway
This "How TV changed Britain" thing is nice and interesting, and very cultural studies.
I like.
Shall have to hunt for the rest.
I like my subject area. This is cool.

Date: 2008-07-16 06:17 am (UTC)Do you mean that it would connect to the network when the power cord was plugged in, but not when it was running on batteries? If so, the problem may be with your power options. The laptop can be set so it does not connect to a network when running on batteries (to save battery life) and you need to adjust that.
Right click on the battery icon in the clock tray, click on 'power options' and check which options you have selected for the different power schemes you use.
When Windows updates it sometimes resets the power options to the factory defaults, so this may be why it has just started happening. I seem to remember mine did that recently.
