The purpose? Finding out if it is possible to read your webpage.
I don't know what settings your monitor is on or how good your eyes are, and you don't know mine, and clearly we have different visions because your grey on grey or pink on purple apparently looks good to you. But I can't read a word of it.
Run some numbers or run the little addon (which I haven't tried, but it looks cool) and you can find out if they pass accessibility basic tests.
I mean, I'm perfectly capable of using style=mine or equivalent buttons, but if you wanted me to do that, you wouldn't be doing the pretty designing. So.
