Sep. 30th, 2005 06:13 pmIf you see this, post in your LJ one or two celebrity encounters you've had that have really stood out for you. Even if they aren't from what you'd consider your current biggest fandom and even if you didn't exactly get to say hi, tell us something that once happened to you where a famous person is concerned.
Why is it that the ones that stand out most for me are the embarrassing ones?
I talked to David Duchovny on the phone on some radio station, but without downloading and playing it I would never have known what I actually said. My mind was blank with something like terror, or possibly awe. Or possibly dumb.
When I met Peter Wingfield the first time I had to go lie down. In the main hall. I only got that far - about 20ft - before it was lie down or faint.
I bumped into Nick Brendon in the hall one morning not long enough after a particularly long party, and only then realised I had failed to remove the remains of my makeup from the night before, thus managing the 'crazy clown' look nicely.
I shared a lift with ASH. And then realised I'd bounced out of my corset. Thankfully the corset was not the only layer I was wearing at the time, but still, sort of... propped up there, not my usual look.
When my corset sproinged on the dance floor was when Andy Hallett chose to head out into the crowd and wave the mic at people.
(Yeah, corsets, kind of hazardous)
Then there's the really cool ones.
Like the geek Trio calling me hot. I was a hot goth queen for the night, and they noticed. (Yeah, that featured a corset too. They definitely have their up side.)
Christian Kane asked my name at a meet n greet, then remembered it the next day. Which could have had something to do with the way I was stuttering so badly I had to wave my con badge and let him read it. That was the weekend after the flat upstairs got lit on fire. I wasn't at my sparkling best, but I was absolutely determined to go to that convention.
Meet n greets are pretty cool in general actually. I never think of anything sensible or coherent to say, but hey, sitting right next to fame.
And sometimes its the celebs who do something they'll look back on and cringe, which is always fun to watch. Like there was one guy at a Stargate con, and the song had the line 'Its getting hot in here so take off all your clothes', and, er, this guy takes direction well...
Mostly though they just have fun. Talking at the bar, hanging out with the crowds. Getting dressed up as jedi and playing baseball with a lightsaber and a foam air propelled rocket launcher. You know, the usual.
One week to the next convention. Galactica One.
*happy grin*
