5, Nyssa, and... well, if that's meant to be a surprise, it's not a very surprising one, but anyways,
Adric.
So Adric was the bad guy.
hrm.
and the Doctor gets to feel really guilty, and then rescue Adric in his sleep???
Because clearly crossing your own timeline only has disastrous consequences for the whole of space and time if you do it while you're awake?
Add to that all that block transfer computation and it feel distinctly more handwavey than usual.

I like time travel stories, in theory, but I have standards, and 'and then the paradox vanished' is a persistently irritating ending.
I mean, why would the scorpions have never happened just because Adric went away? There's no why.

So anyway, the main problem is, I can't see why this story.
It's not to get Adric back. He's the bad guy, acting out all the worst and whiniest parts of him, including sexual assault on Nyssa and pushing the Doctor in with a giant spider, which seems a bit much really.
Interesting though, you get block transfer computation web Adric and it's a bit like Adric learned much from the Master
(my brain supplies: Adric has two Daddies. and then it tries to go places I really Do Not WAnt. *shudderS*.)

So then the point is to show Adric was a waste of space? Then why did we listen to him for a couple of hours?

And then the Doctor gets to feel really guilty and think everything is his fault. Fair enough. That fits. And then he makes it so Adric gets rescued.

Which would be fair enough except it depends on deciding that Adric can't do these things on his own. There's a phrase for devaluing established characters to make your favourite look shiny. The Doctor orbits close enough to MArty Stu without adding that.

But, okay, the Doctor is that shiny he can rewrite reality in his sleep.
Good thing he doesn't sleep then.

But really, what was the point? To exorcise the Doctor's guilt? Make him not have to feel that way any more because he saved Adric after all?
That's a stupid thing. That doesn't work.

And that seems to be the only reason Adric gets 500 years.
500 years as the evil overlord of the scorpion people.
It takes all the sting out of things. Adric didn't die like we saw, he died of being almost as old as the Doctor.
Just... blah.

I think this story could have been more interesting if Adric was only a couple years older than he was when we last saw him. Then him acting like such a creepy brat would be less pathetic.

It would also work better if it was clear if he liked his people in his scorpion kingdom.

He's gone all pantomime villain, which is never very interesting
and it seems to be done just to make the Doctor flawless
and it's a poor reason to bring back a companion.

This one didn't work for me on many levels.

I did like the scorpion kingdom and the running from big stinging monsters sections, and the way the translation didn't quite work. That was okay.

But the actual reason for the story was just... no.
