beccaelizabethDishwasher update: the cleaner did indeed remove a lot of limescale.
so now I can see that under the being white and flaky it was in fact red and cracked.
like, seriously, large could stick a fork in it but I'm not actively stupid cracks.
I have unplugged the whole stupid thing and will call the repair dudes soonish.
