Redemption '09: Doctor/Master panel

This started off well. Who thinks they’re doing it? All hands raised.
Right then, that’s sorted…
There was some banter on the lines of ‘hi, perverts!’ and some pun on subspace which clearly my innocent mind wouldn’t understand.

snowgrouse’s photoshop Doctor/Master stuff either.
ANYway…
It was suggested that the Master is secretly a sub, because Master in real life means slave in play. He’s begging for punishment.
Season 8 is a complicated courtship ritual
Leading up to a proposal in Colony in Space.
He killed 4 to make him pretty.
New series fans miss a lot of old series background.
They can think that the Doctor’s grief at the Master dying is only about him being the last.
But he grew up with him, went to uni with him, he’s losing his best mate.
Dying=win. And he has an out.
(he always has an out)
Master doesn’t want to be kept.
He’s like the kid who keeps kicking the seat in front.
[comparisons such as that always amuse me. The whole genocidal madman who wiped out a large proportion of the universe thing just gets translated to seat kicking.]
Master as classic stalker.
He only chooses Earth because of the Doctor.
Ruling doesn’t matter if there’s no audience.
Mind of Evil = Master needy.
(Are we assuming all the Doctor/Master stories are all the Master’s stories? I dislike that assumption for Giles/Ethan and can’t read it in the text, but for the Master I can quite believe it. We know he has long term plans, but the Doctor always seems to turn up at the end of them.)
Master is equal and opposite of the Doctor: by choice.
Jacobi -> Simm regeneration, he said as much, “If the Doctor can be young and strong” then.
Can you have Master without Doctor?
(not when it’s the Doctor’s show.)
Master gets what he wants and its not what he wanted. He has dominion, what next?
Fear of ageing to death, Jacobi & Simm Master. Close call.
Acts out on a large scale because of that?
“I wasted all my lives because of you” Master to 8 Doctor, TVM
Hate the film, can use the line.
Arguing about War Chief now. Does he = Master?
The Master is the ex so comfy you forget you’re not together.
3 says he’s looking forward to seeing the Master again… even after all the very recent deaths.
Some agreement we wouldn’t want them together in canon. Spoil the fun.
‘shipping is easier after New series.
At this point Snowgrouse asked Paul Cornell about Shalka / Robot master
And he said of course they were.

Also (1) PC turned up at the Doctor/Master panel, and (2) said what else would he say, he's here. (I think he said that. Was some mumbling.)
Vast blind spot for the Master. Give him opportunity so he can choose to stop. RTD Master brought a lot of subtext on screen and it makes sense.
“Say my name”
PC said, not for the last time this weekend, that Doctor Who has no canon. Canon is a way of saying some texts don’t count. Fanfic counts.
Tennant/Simm sword fight please.

Keeps Doctor around, ogling him, and drugging.

Mark of Rani = mocking the boys.
Time Monster = shippy
Mind of Evil = Master psych, no laughing.
Layered ‘ship.
People meet the Doctor and are all “you’ve changed”
So Doctor/Master is clearly many ‘ships.
[Also, the Master understands and doesn’t have to say?]
But maybe it’s regeneration changes that split them?
PC: Hartnell Doctor is disinterested in humans, and he’s the one the Master knew.
Most hurtful thing any alien says to the Doctor is “You’re like me”
“You would make a good Dalek”
Master: quarter of universe destroyed, now ignored.
Powerful but not using power.
So Doctor & Master the same?
Master in Time War, only time Doctor and Master would aim the same way.

This was the first panel where I realised I want to be able to see the whole room and not just the panel table. Interesting always seems to be behind me.
After that was opening ceremony and pub quiz.
I helped giving out paper and pens, which is another task I find I am quite capable of, yaays.
I have concluded quiz teams work better when they're table sized. Also when they don't fall asleep.
But I got all of one question about a topic other than Science Fiction correct.
... It was about Top Gear, and I only knew because of the 8th Doctor audio parody, but still.
