Public transport. Arrgh.
Mar. 9th, 2009 10:15 pmSomeone posted to a torchwood comm that there's a rail strike on the line we'll need to get to and from the Hub convention on the days we'll need it.
Arrgh.
So. Cannot rely on there even being a train, let alone one I can catch.
*does the stompy dance of trains are bad*
Right then. Other plans?
The travel planner site Transport Direct reckons I can take the bus, change at Peterborough.
The Dereham to Peterborough part of the route takes two hours. The Peterborough to Northampton part takes 2 hours 30 minutes. Then I'll need a taxi to the hotel.
X1 from Dereham, in the opposite direction to usual. X4 from bay 15 in Peterborough bus station.
The travel planner and google maps agree that by car it takes less than three hours, door to door, allowing a bit of time for traffic.
... how much does 115 miles cost in a taxi anyways...?
... ugh. I don't even know if I can travel that far in a car or bus without being sick.

Date: 2009-03-10 08:24 am (UTC)Since we live in Norfolk that is NEVER going to happen. I drive to Peterborough regularly and it's 40 to 50 maximum all the way, due to Tractors, Lorries, and Stupid Old Men.
Most of the time you can't overtake so you are just sat there wanting to crash your car just to numb the boredom.
I'd really try and stick with the trains. They say they will strike but it may well be called off, and even if they do, most of the services will still run. It's not like engineering works when the track is pulled up.
Buses aren't too bad, but they just say they take so long because the roads are so awful.
The A47 is my nemesis.

Date: 2009-03-10 02:39 pm (UTC)The *train* route is ridiculous though. Dereham to Norwich to Norwich train station, one hour at least. Train station to London, London liverpool street to Euston square underground, 400yards above ground to Euston station, London to Northampton. Takes longer than the bus.
Getting out of Norfolk, tricky.
