beccaelizabethIt's really rather good. Lots of layers going on. Politics, isolation vs federation, religion vs science, lots of different aliens, and a bit of a love story that didn't turn out annoying. Also, costumes with really big sleeves and collars. That's fun.
I think I would have liked it better and had more to say if I had been paying more attention, but I've been fiddling with my laptop trying to get it to back up. I tried just copying it but it won't copy some stuff while it's working. Then it had hidden files. Then I poked it until I got the actual Backup utility working, but it said it would take a couple of days to work. Now it is saying it will take another 7 hours. It keeps shrinking, so I live in hope it'll be done before dinner.
When I made hidden files show up I found the desktop is totally full of ghost files. They all start with a ~ and think they're either .doc or .tmp , and I haven't the slightest clue why they are there, or how many there are, since they don't all fit. I'm tempted to delete them all but if I don't know what they are I don't know why they exist or what will happen if they stop. Ridiculous thing.
I'm backing up the computer so I can take it to be fixed. I'm being extra careful this time because of the time it came back looking empty. But I'm not sending it to them people this time.
Computers are probably simple once you've studied them, but my computer skills stopped in the 90s with word processing and basic html, and I find everything has gone complicated since then.

Date: 2010-01-19 02:07 pm (UTC)39 minutes into the backup, with a stated 8 hours to go, the virus checker said it had just got rid of a trojan. I don't want a backup of a virus. So, I deleted and started again.
