see, this is where romance plots lead to
"If either of you moves, I'll kill the other. You risk your own lives, but you'd never risk each other."
*facepalm*
Of course they'd risk each other! Its their freakin job! They do it every week! But nooooo, because they have squishy feelings, now they'd 'never'. Ick! Dumbth!

sociology textbook brings the strangeness
Feb. 15th, 2006 06:53 pmso it is talking about theories of the origin of gender inequalities, and examples of less unequal ones:
"Thus the Mbuti Pygmies of Africa have a relatively egalitarian society because men and women cooperate in both domestic and economic life. Yet even here men retain some independence from the domestic sphere by having separate and secret flute cults."
Flute cult!
for some reason that just strikes me as funny. also, cool.
yet I google for "Mbuti Pygmy" "flute cult" and I get nothing. pygmy "flute cult" gets nothing too. Woe!
"flute cult" gets 104 hits, starting witha lot of Native American stuff. Nifty :)

page of flute legends
I want to read it but I should finish the page in the textbook.

Feb. 15th, 2006 07:42 pm"People react to others first and foremost as men and women"
I know this is shouty 70s theory and therefore pre-internet, but I know a bunch of people where I'm not even sure if they *are* men and women, let alone which one.
pixels lack gender.
and probably sex.
though you never know what they're getting up to when you're not looking.
This is why my default icon just says 'Be'
with an abstract symbol.
not be a girl or be a boy (or be both, though there is red and blue in it)
just Be, with a thinky sort of a symbol. Be full of meanings.
Meanings are more interesting than biology.
