You can tell theres an assignment coming up, I'm diving into fiction and attempting to stay there.

Have read more Doctor Who books. Up to Deviant Strain. It has Jack, being heroic and screwing up and stuff. Yaay. The only thing wrong with it is the connection to the title is even more tenuous than usual, which is a pity, for the title is good.

Reading the books doesn't give the the same fix new episodes or new fic does. I mean they're long plotty fic, which is yaay, I sometimes sulk about fanfic and plots and how mostly "and then they had sex" seems to cover it. But sometimes "and then they didn't spend so much as three pages in the same geography and most emphatically definitely didn't have sex" is sort of unsatisfying also. I mean, it's difficult to get teaminess when there's only two characters, yes, but it's also difficult when there're three characters but they do a plait plot and they only overlap for a couple minutes at a time until the climax.
... the bit where they all win. In a Jack story this needs specifying.

There was cute Jack looking after people stuff, and some attempted additional character depth for him, that gets really ironic considering. That was nice.

I just... I want to throw fanfic and plotty well written tie-in fic and episodes all in together and mix the good bits together. Which pretty much ends up as two part Torchwood episodes with the characters I like having sex a lot. Which, you know, I think would be yaay.

On the *very* plus side - I've read a whole bunch of these DW books in a row and they're all readable. I mean, I compare this to my Buffy reading, where some are just blah and some are wildly out of character and one I still haven't actually technically read cause it got so bad I just skimmed until I *facepalm* and found the ending really was as bad as the setup. So the books aren't giving me my fanfic happies, which, duh, but they are entirely readable.
I did get a bit of a feeling that perhaps one reason no one is out of character is that some of it is so plot based there's barely any character in them. Might be being uncharitable there.
But I didn't get the urge to throw the books across the room, so win.

I am, otoh, really bored. Still.
So I'm going to eat and then go read another book.

It kind of doesn't help that, whatever else I'm reading, somewhere in my head MarySue-me&Jack&Ianto keep on interrupting to... do stuff.
Sometimes sex.
Sometimes, as with today, have showers and discover alt-me keeps spare underwear for them filed in alphabetised boxes.

... because this is the kind of stuff my story brain does to me.

... I must feed it an actual plot soon.

Only Human is funny.
And not just trying to be funny. Actually funny.
With many weddings.
Though "and then suddenly everyone could spit fire" is not quite a solution I would have thought of, and is more of a laugh than a win.
Jack was barely there. I am sad. Though the distraction near the start would indeed be very distracting.
It's one of the fun things about Jack that streaking is indeed entirely in character.
The bits with the neanderthal discovering lying are also funny.
The stuff which Jack thinks right before they leave is entirely plausible, but also the less fun kind of ironic. Cause he couldn't take a month stuck in one place, and now?
Also the thing where he doesn't get peace time and goes looking for wars. Which has potential for Character but is mostly just A Laugh.

These books cost about £1 each. I wouldn't have minded paying actual book prices. They're all readable and stuff.

Tomorrow there is college again, more poems, and a meeting to discuss the thing I've obviously been working on all year... yup, of course, for we were advised. Blah. Total timewaste. I mean, Higher Learning Study Skills we do indeed need, and I've spent a year studying up on stuff like Working In Groups and How To Use All This New Software and suchlike, but now we've got to hand in some writeup and total blah.

*shrugs*

I shall eat and read another book instead.
... as two seperate actions. I have not ate books since I was very small.

Had a bath. Had some food. Read another Doctor Who book.

The Stealers of Dreams
*good* one.
Dark, scary, twisty - not predictable, but not cheating. There was a twist right at the end that I totally hadn't imagined but it went click right where it should do. Lovely!
And there was a scary bit where I had to stop in the middle cause they were going to do something *nasty* to Jack and I was pretty sure they didn't but... well. Ahem. Anyways.
And Jack-the-storyteller was a nice look at him.
And there was tons of hero stuff from everybody.
And I love the Doctor's solution.
And it was just very cool.

I hug this book. I like it a lot.
Once again it splits up the characters and puts them out of communication and only has them overlap again right when things go boom, but in fun and interesting ways.

The only thing though... they share a room but sleep seperate?
... nah.
The pictures in my head are a much better version.
