So I sat down to watch another Torchwood with the commentary on
then the TV changed channels to watch something I had at some point decided looked interesting.
So I watched 'The Descent'.
... after it finished I went back and watched Torchwood to kind of decompress. Cause I was thinking, by this point? Countrycide would be less creepy. Read more... )

And the thing I loved most - the thing that kept me watching after the first vague interest - was that it's all women. I realise a horror movie has some inherent drawbacks for that setup, since you can be pretty sure it's either all or almost all dead women walking, but I've been watching so much stuff lately where there's The Girl surrounded by and interacting with guys and I'm *sick* of it. And this managed to have a half a dozen fully differentiated female characters with relationships that looked like we were picking up and joining them in the middle. I hadn't realised how utterly *starved* for that I was until I watched this. Why isn't there more of that?

Very cool, very creepy, very dark... in several senses. None of that namby pamby light-you-see-the-dark-by, just some serious dark with red flarelight or green coldlight glowsticks or sometimes just spots from their helmet lights. All kinds of fun.

So now I guess I want to write or see something with lots of women that live.
... I'm pretty much coming up 'Charmed', and I gave up on that quite some time ago...
Guess there's always Buffy.

I have reached the point of feeling entirely stroppy about the idea of picking up and/or reading even one more book about cultural theory.
I tired.
End of term is three lessons and a field trip away. I can last three lessons and a field trip. I'll even like the field trip, we look at pretty pictures.

I have some good books and plenty to read, but right now I'm not feeling thrilled and ooh-shiny about it. More like it's all stuff I've read already said in a slightly different way and/or having an argument with itself.

So hey, I have acquired knowledge - enough that the major debates in cultural theory are now winding me up from boredom rather than baffling from new vocabulary. Call it progress.

... I have until mid January to write the end of term essay. I can do that. No worries. I could even take some weeks of holiday as actual holiday, with no reading in it, unless I want to read.

I get so bored over the huge long holidays and then so... bored isn't the right word, more like overstuffed... even over the relatively short semesters. Like academic rollercoaster. Only without the throwing up.

On the Doctor Who FAQ page it says

Q: Can I be in it? Can I write a script? Can I submit a story idea? Can I work on it? Can I be an extra? Can I visit the set?
A: Sadly, no.

Yet either it is beamed in from another universe, or people do indeed work on it and all that.
So one wonders, how?
And surely a more useful FAQ answer would be something like 'if you start working for the BBC and work your way up and get on the right team' etc etc, rather than just telling the whole UK 'no'. I mean even 'not through this website, try BBC jobs' would be more accurate, yesno?

... and the 'beamed from alternate universe' thing can't be true unless the reports of people stalking the filming are also cunningly imported from the same source.
*nods*

I'm bored and thinking about my ultimate career goal as stated at college ie write for Doctor Who. Though I'd be quite happy to put things in alphabetical order for Doctor Who between terms, or something. There's a general DW related theme to my vague hopes for future employment.

... yes, I know, there's a whole 'be realistic' theme to certain other work associated discourses, but as I said, bored.

So, anyways, mystery: how is DW made without anyone who reads the website being allowed.
Hang on, maybe it's reading the website that disqualifies you...

I had a sleep. Now I feel weird. Kind of wonky and sideways. I don't know. Like maybe the whole world got up and turned right around when I wasn't looking. I mean, how would you know?

Some days you wake up and feel like everything is pretty much going to be same as usual
and other days you wake up and the Rift opening and shifting everything into an alternate universe would somehow not be a surprise.

Either that or I need more liquid refreshment. And chocolate biscuits. *nods*

2 then 1
3&7
4&8
... how do they keep track of when they are ever at all?
also, my guesses when they were being shown were not close on at all.
*shrugs*

also, they're talking about how Cyberwoman would have made a good episode 10.
... character arc is not one of their priorities, yes?
Yes.
