So I've been trying to find my f-list on this new place.
... there's a lot of people. like, a lot.
I found the big page of rss feeds today and was all 'yaays! can has neil gaiman!' or at least his blog. And then I saw a bunch of others I recognised and hover clicked my way down the list. Only by the end I realised that the hover phase frequently turned into the next name down before I clicked, and so my feeds were turning rather random. I decided I'd just leave them that way, see what the internet gods provided... but then I realised one was fandom wank, and, well, no.

this is my very exciting day so far.

next I will read even more about Hamlet. Only three books to go before Thursday.

Am hearing that Torchwood will be on week starting 15th June.
Great, we have a date!
... wait a minute, I have one day this year with an absolutely can't skip it appointment...
noooooo... will be watching a wedding and not Torchwood!
:-(

It's very nice my aunt is getting married again and she sent out all those cards and things to save the date and all but... but... !

... okay, I'm over it. weddings are cool.

I've been reading people getting a Dreamwidth account and deciding to xpost, and several have said something like "You can xpost from Dreamwidth to LJ, but I don't know how to post from LJ to Dreamwidth... hmmm, maybe I'll just stay on LJ"
er, why?
Because, the xposting thing, that means that wherever you post from it goes to both places, right? So what's the difference xposting from Dreamwidth or from LJ, since it goes to both?

Not that I have yet either imported my LJ or learned how to xpost, because staying away while there's beta, but.
am I missing something?

I watched Laurence Olivier's Hamlet.
... my first and most persistent impression was 'So that's where Avon got it from'.
(Which isn't helpful).

I understand that pacing is going to be a problem when you watch older stuff. Apparently people thought slow so they leave thinking space after every word. Alright. Difficult to watch, but not so much a choice as a fashion. I would ignore that part.
But. They chopped and changed the text so much, Read more... )

It wasn't the same story. They'd taken all the interesting out and swapped it for dumb.

There were some good bits in the imagery. A moment where Hamlet's shadow falls on Yorick's skull in the graveyard scene so it's a skull in a man's shape. That's a good picture. And they had some really large sets to play with, and a lot of extras, which leaves room to make any one man really small in the middle of all that pomp and ceremony. Plus they used tapestry and wall painting a lot, which means even when nobody is watching there's still eyes everywhere.

... Apparently I can get quite worked up about all this. Which isn't bad going for a centuries old text.
