I changed to a different journal style. I think it's prettier now.
But I discover I feel weird having a random someone else made it picture up there in the top corner.
It's pretty. It has a flower. I sometimes like flowers.
... would I like it better if it had a random knife? Maybe a sword?
... I get picky about swords, so probably not.
I think mostly it's just that someone else made it. When the possibility exists for me to make it. It just feels weird and a bit lazy to not make it.

I made graphics for my geocities website waaaaaay back in the day.
... possibly in the 90s. OMG.

I should probably do something about my geocities website. I mean, I'm not entirely sure it still exists as I type. I copied it all to my computer, but it might not exist on the web anywhere any more.

Another thing I should do something about: tw_transcripts comm on DW. I made it, I forgot about it, I started posting transcripts... only to my journal.

I got so bored trying to finish the latest Torchwood transcript. Not cool.

I like DW. I should probably just pay more attention over here in general. Maybe copy over my LJ or do crossposting a bit. I don't know. changes with 'beta' in them make me nervous. Change makes me nervous. Which clearly explains why I have a Chaos icon...

headache kept me up past midnight
then I slept until 1200
which gave me few minutes to get things sorted before the helpful cleaner arrived.
But the dishwasher is working and the washing machine is packed
and the helpful cleaner was helpful and now there is clean.

Now I just have to wait until the 1700-1900 delivery slot for my foods.
... that's 4 hours. I could do something with those. If I could think of anything.
... nope, another day staying home watching TV.

I know this sounds idyllic to many people, but what I dream is another day helping (some nice people) save the world a lot.
... somehow I don't think that's likely.

Enterprise just made me LOL

"It can't be ethical to cause a patient this much pain."

"It's unethical to harm a patient. I can inflict as much pain as I like."

Oh eeeew, blood worms! "He'll come out on his own... eventually."
*facepalm*

... I think I like Next Gen tech better...

Watched Kiss of the Dragon, a Jet Li martial arts film in English set in Paris.
... the accent mix was interesting.

I love the visual language of a good fight. Show not tell with a sharp edge. Action sequences reveal so much about a character just from their moves. I don't know how to write it, and I been trying since Highlander fandom, but I do appreciate it when it's done well. Unfortunately it also jars when I notice it done badly, or see a fight that's plain ripped from context and redone on the cheap, which has happened a couple of times on TV. ... I reckon I know which is ripping because of the dates and the not actually making sense on the TV. I can't remember what I was watching though so I probably shouldn't say that bit. Insufficient references. But, point is: Fights are a language too, and it's jarring to watch a character you know well start moving with a new accent, or quoting stuff that just isn't relevant right then.

I keep trying to figure out how to get martial arts into my space dystopia. They totally belong there. You've got a restrictive society, high control rating, low chance of weapon shaped weapons, but high dissatisfaction, so high chance of people wanting a fight. Plus they put humans central in a way that idealises acrobatics and dance and choral singing, things that don't need anything but a human to do, which goes back to when they were on spaceships with a mass limit and didn't have such things to hand. So lots of logic that puts movement and elegance and team and stuff that ought to go into martial arts language.
... I just haven't found an excuse yet to have them start kicking.
Clearly I should work on that.

I've only got the first 3 eps transcribed so I can't count 4 or 5. Also even when I've got an accurate list of speaking characters I won't be able to count 5. I'm not watching that again.

But I'm going to count people in the first 3 days. I go through the transcript, copy all the names of speaking people, label them best as I can see (currently from memory), and then add people up. I can't count the children, they are Many and Varied.

So it works out at about 41-44% women and 15% people of color for these three episodes.
Which is... actually vaguely embarassing since I vaguely felt there were A Lot Of Women, and we're still not up to half.
But for the show is doing better.

Very roughly. Still need to check.
Need the names and categories for people in day 4 and 5.

This is a first draft and I shouldn't draw conclusions from it.

I haven't figured out Bechdel pass/fail yet. Two named women, yes. Who talk to each other, yes, but is it about a man or in a group including men? Have to check. Think y and y.

That requires brain and reading or watching tho. And I've done a bunch of that for right now.

also I should be asleep by now.
