Made some pretty
Jan. 9th, 2010 10:49 amI was working on my essay (no, really, no zombies for a whole hour and a half! lots of notes made!) and suddenly decided I did not like the curtain in my front room.
I've had the same curtain since I moved out from my parents, so more than 12 years now, and I've liked it perfectly well that whole time, but today all of a sudden I did not like it at all.
So first I tied it up out of the way. Which was okay. The view from my flat right now is all picturesque and snow covered. Everyone's cars are full of snow. The steps are full of snow. But then someone came home with bags full of shopping and I remembered why I don't pull the curtain out of the way, because the steps are right outside my window. So. No.
Yet I couldn't be having with that curtain any more. I just took against it. I don't know why, I thought probably it had to do with being a crazy person, but as crazy impulses go this one was relatively benevolent, so, fair enough. I took it down completely.
And then I replaced it with a bit of cloth I've had around since mum bought it for me. It's red and yellow and some rainbow bits tie dyed on, and there's little mirrors, and it's a really nice bit of cloth that I've been meaning to do something with since I moved in. Er, yes, that's about a decade now. Cloth is like that. But I've had this bit tied around a door handle to remind me pretty much that whole time. So today I decided it could go up in my window. And it's not big enough to go this side of the windowsill like the old curtain did, but because the windows are sort of triangular and look like double wide arrow slits it's the perfect width to cover just the window glass. And because it's so light I could stick it up with blu tack. So there it was, on the window, attached, all red and yellow and rainbow spots. And the pattern makes it look like a red gothic arch on a yellow background, with a rainbow halo.
And then the sun came out.
Beautiful.
This being Britain the sun is unlikely to last many minutes today so I guess it was indeed the most urgent thing to do.
Also, now I can see my windowsill. Apparently I used it to store stuff. So there's a collection of stuff I forgot I owned, all of it undusted for, hmmm, call it five years at least...
but that's a problem for later. For right now I'm going back to my desk, staring through my new cloth colors at the rainbow snow, and working on my essay.
