Lots of 5 and Nyssa (and Tegan and Adric)
Jan. 25th, 2010 01:53 amToday I watched The Keeper of Traken, and then Earthshock, and then Time Flight. Which is a bit random but I couldn't remember any particular episodes to watch Nyssa in. I watched all the 5 and Nyssa stories without forming any particular opinion of her, so, *shrugs*. In audio she's a proper character. On TV she strikes me as bland even the times she's being quite active. She bribes guards, turns a tool into a weapon and stuns them, rewires important technology, knows how to fix and unfix the TARDIS, shoots things, and breaks psychic illusions by not believing in them (and screaming and seeing dead bodies and stuff). That's quite a lot of stuff. I don't know why I still mostly don't think about it. Possibly dilution. There's a whole lot of story that isn't about Nyssa. Also in a group she's the one trying to be reasonable and nice and get everyone talking, or trying to be sensible and rational. Which are very useful qualities, but not as striking as, say, Tegan tends to be.
I guess the Big Finish stories happen after Time Flight, because the 5th Doctor and Nyssa wander off together with nobody else around. Because Tegan wandered off and, er, they didn't notice? I don't know. Possibly because of stupid. Seemed a bit silly.
Adric got dead of hero, not stupid. The important difference being he had a sensible plan that could well have worked and would have saved a world. He didn't just refuse to run, he refused to run because it weren't fixed yet.
... sometimes when I've watched episodes with Adric in I feel the need to watch him get dead again, but then he gets dead of hero, and I feel a bit guilty about it. But all that passive aggressive arguing and pretending to want to leave just so the Doctor would say sorry and pay attention and admit his maths was the bestest is also very Adric, and very annoying. But the Doctor contributes his share of annoying to the whole thing, cause he gets huffy and high handed and goes off and ignores people. 5 in particular has ways of saying nothing that are very loud indeed. Sometimes makes me glad I wasn't traveling in that particular TARDIS.
Mind you, 4 in general makes me glad. He takes up so much space I'd curl up into nothing much to get out of the way. I do not dream on running away with 4.
Now it is 2 in the morning and I would have liked to be asleep for some time now. But I suddenly got worried I'd read the calendar wrong so I had to get up again and check. :eyeroll:
