I'm putting the counter up there, but I realised I've been writing the wrong argument. For several pages. If I have this argument now, everything is out in the open, and there's nowhere to go with the characters. They have to have covert and superficially polite versions of this argument for a few chapters instead. So I'm probably going to have to go back to yesterday's word count and start again.

This is so depressing I'm quitting for the night/day instead.
